I am so excited to begin our confirmation class this Sunday, September 13 at 9:15 a.m. in the lounge. I hope that all of our youth will be able to attend.
I am also excited to announce that Quinton Renno will be helping me lead this class. Quinton is a senior at Oak Park High School and has been a faithful member here at Northminster for several years now. Welcome Quinton!!!
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
WHAT IS CONFIRMATION? Simply put, confirmation is a time of training and preparation for active membership in the church. For youth who were baptized as infants, it is a time for them to prepare to claim their faith as their own as members of the church. For those who have not been baptized yet, it is a time to prepare for baptism and active membership in the church.
You can go online and check out the first video from part of the curriculum we’ll be using http://www.theocademy.com/confirmation
HOW LONG WILL CONFIRMATION LAST? My plan is that confirmation will last most of this School year. I have taught confirmation as a two year Sunday School class and as an eight week class. Two years was probably a bit much, but eight weeks was not enough. So, we will meet just about every Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m. I’ll get you a schedule as I get a few things hammered out.
I am tentatively planning Confirmation Sunday for Sunday, May 1, 2016. Please check your calendars as see if that works for you.
WILL CONFIRMATION BE FUN? YES! We are going to do more than just sit and talk. The curriculum I’m using has activities and games that help to build on the lesson and engage the learners.
WILL WE DO MORE THAN JUST SIT IN A CLASS? Yes! The bulk of our time together will be spent during the Sunday School hour, but that will not be all. Soon, I’ll be scheduling a meeting with the youth, parents and (or) grandparents to plan events such as a mission project, confirmation retreat / lock-in, and possibly some activities just for the fun of it!
