Tiger's Tale
November 06, 2020
Message From The Principal
I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe!
Please remember Parent/Teacher Conferences take place this upcoming week on Nov. 12th & Nov. 13th. Please sign up using the link on our website or contact your teacher for a time slot.
I want to end by congratulating our STARS families for an excellent beginning to Live Learning! It is wonderful to see our students back in the building. Our kids are smiling, wearing their masks, and brightening up everyone’s day!
I would also like to thank our teachers, teacher assistants, social workers, and speech pathologists that specifically work with our STARS students. Keep up the great work!
Please take a look at this week’s Outstanding Tiger Winners.
Congratulations!
Student
Mrs. Passarelli & Ms. Garrison nominated Kyla Baier.
"Kyla works super hard in class, and she is always on task and engaged in the activities. She consistently participates and asks questions. She pops into our Student Support Time to ensure that she is on track with classwork."
We are so proud of your determination, Kyla! Keep being awesome!
Staff Member(s)
Minaal Khurram nominated Andrea Pethoud.
"She is really really really nice to me she is such an understanding teacher even though it's for a few minutes, if it were to be the teacher I trust most and I could share something with it would be her."
Minaal Khurram nominated Angela Robinson.
"Every single day I feel so welcoming when I log into this class because of her, she is really nice, whenever we have independent work time and everyone chooses to log off I don't, I always chat with her about random stuff and about school work. If I were in school right now I would be so comfortable to go to her whenever I want. I really think she deserves to be Tiger of The Week."

AVID
During September & October, AVID highlighted some organizational strategies. For the months of November & December, we will focus on Writing. According to AVID, "Writing is a learning tool, a personal and public communication tool, and serves as a record of thinking. Students who write consider audience and purpose, engage in various writing processes to address specific situations, support their thinking, and demonstrate understanding." Watch for ways students can improve their writing, as well as some outstanding examples from our AVID students.
"You can make anything by writing." ~C.S. Lewis

Get to Know ... Brian Fauth
This year marks my 23rd year teaching for District #308, and my second as a junior high teacher. I spent my years previous as an elementary school teacher, teaching fifth grade at East View and Grande Park. For approximately eight years I also served as a gifted education teacher throughout the district. As I enter into the final third of my professional teacher career, I was looking for a change that would refresh and strengthen my teaching skills and also challenge me to learn about an entirely new aspect of teaching. And so I now teach junior high English Language Arts here at Thompson Junior High.
I am also heavily involved in the theatre communities of Oswego and Aurora/Chicago. I am the founder and former Artistic Director of The Limelight Theatre Company, the Oswegoland Park District's youth theatre program. I have also managed drama programs for Sandwich High School, Bednarcik and Plank Junior Highs, and Storm Dance Alliance over the years. I currently am the owner and Artistic Director of New Place Theatre, a semi-professional company I started this year.
Get to Know ... Joe Giarrante
In 2005 I joined School District 308 and the faculty at Thompson Junior High School as a teacher assistant. This career move came after I decided to leave business for what I love to do—teach and coach. I received my bachelor’s degree in economics from Eastern Illinois University, in Charleston, which sent me into the business world. After college I worked five years for a worldwide paperboard company before figuring out I needed to be an educator and a leader in athletics. I then received my master’s degree in teaching and learning from Illinois’ Aurora University. Since then I have taught both seventh and eighth grade math at Thompson. I currently teach seventh grade math. Over the years I have been on the district math curriculum committee, a mentor teacher, and a building leadership team member. I have a passion for sports and competition. While attending Eastern Illinois University, I pitched on the baseball team. My passion for sports and playing experience has driven me to be the eighth grade basketball coach at Thompson and the head varsity baseball coach at Oswego High School.
I love teaching and coaching, and I look forward to having a great year.
