Blaze Bulletin
Week of December 10th - Edition 44
Greetings...
Dear teachers and staff,
Please mark your calendars for the annual holiday breakfast for Thursday, December 19th at 8:30am. Come hungry, and come ready to laugh! This year we will be treated to a special performance by some of our students promptly at 8:30am!
The door prize gifts are looking good and plentiful - we will organize as we did last year so that you can get on with your day in a timely manner after the party.
Happy Holidays and I'll see you January 7th. The agenda for January 7th will be emailed soon.
GO BLAZE!

Our Students Changing the World...
Dear BHS Teachers,
My name is Chloe Hartquist and I am a member of the collegiate academy. My project is a lip sync video to "We are the World" and we are using it to raise money for hurricane relief in Florida. We will be collecting donations in front of the cafeteria during all three lunches on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please share the video link below with your classes in order to help raise awareness of the fundraiser. Thank you!

'TIS THE SEASON FOR SAFETY
Safety Tips from Mr. Parkhurst
As the holidays tend to be a busy season for everyone, I want to share this reminder regarding safety and security. There are several easy things that you can do to make yourself a harder target for criminals. December is a busy month for them, too!
- Do NOT EVER EVER EVER leave your purse or any other valuable item(s) in plain view when you leave your vehicle. This applies in parking lots, at work, at home, or anywhere else. This also applies all year.
- Lock your doors. Car and house. Always. If you followed the first tip, it is very unlikely that a thief will risk the noise of shattering a window hoping that you left something good in there. If you didn't follow the first tip, they will absolutely risk the noise to get your purse, computer, etc.
- Park close to the lamps in parking lots whenever possible, and pay attention to what is going on around you and around your vehicle.
- Do not put boxes for high value items (TVs, Laptops, PCs, Gaming Systems, etc.) out by the road for trash pick-up. Break down the boxes, load them in your car, and drive to the nearest Convenience Center. Otherwise, you're advertising all of the cool stuff a burglar can score in your home.
- Wait until you get home to post pictures of your vacation. No-one on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, or Twitter need to know you're out of town until after you have already returned. Disregarding this is an open invitation for someone to relieve you of your things while you're away. (Remember, NOTHING you post online is truly "private")
- If you are traveling, and you reside in the city, call 615-893-1311 and request a "Special Watch" on your residence. Be prepared to tell the Dispatcher your address, phone numbers, any vehicles that will remain parked in the driveway, and the names/vehicles of anyone that has your permission to be on the premises. Officers will drive by your house as frequently as they can while you are away, and they will confront anyone they observe at your house.
- If buying presents from people on Craigslist or the like, be smart and utilize the Murfreesboro Police Department's new parking spaces designed specifically for this. They have dedicated surveillance equipment to record the exchange. They are located at the new headquarters (formerly MMC) on N. Highland Ave.
In all that you do, be safe!

FIELD TRIP REMINDERS...
Field Trips for 2nd Semester
As you plan for 2nd semester, please keep in mind that the testing starts in mid-April. In order to have students in class for the last couple of weeks prior to the testing, all field trips should be completed before Spring Break.
We understand that some state and national competitions and some athletic playoffs may take place after Spring Break, and we know you don't have any control over that. We will work with requests on things like this on a per case basis.

INSERVICE OPPORTUNITY
Balance is often an issue. This book study will endeavor to help us learn ways to balance but will also provide many opportunities for us to learn from and share with each other.
This in-service will be different in that we will have an online discussion group, which will account for 1.5 hours of our in-service credit. It will also give us an easy place to share and communicate with each other.
The book study will cap at 20 people. Contact Ms. Walker if interested in being added to the group.
