Lopat's Lowdown
Office of the Principal - Faculty Newsletter November 15h
What a week! Doesn't it always seem the 4 day weeks typically are the longest? The positives this week far outweigh some of the struggles. It's an honor to be one of only 12 schools in our District to receive results based funding because of the growth showed on AzMerit. I can't say enough the phenomenal job teachers, paras, and staff members do on a daily basis to impact our students and bring out their best. I probably sound like a broken record, but these are things that need to be said and celebrated here at CRE!
Once I get any information about RBF payouts and employee eligibility I will share it out
On Thursday, our unannounced lockdown went EXCELLENT! In my career, I have never experienced a lockdown during lunch and it was great to see the efficiency from everyone. The purpose of doing drills is to make sure our system in place keeps kids safe. I struggled last night thinking about students and staff at recess time knowing it was a bit chaotic getting them in along with getting students at lunch in the project room. Here's what I've come up with:
- Keep students outside behind the portables and out of plain sight during a lockdown. The police officer mentioned 95% of lockdowns will be a police matter that's close by resulting in a modified lockdown. If that's the case, we will make an announcement to come into the building through the speakers and radios. So make sure you always have a radio outside.
- Inside the cafeteria, use the project room, the kitchen, the custodial shop, Mr. Foster's office, and Building Blocks classrooms to place our students. Remember making sure students are safe and secure is our top priority.
- Check your neighboring classroom to make sure the door is locked. If you know the teacher is away from his/her room please pull the magnet to ensure the safety of yourself and your students
Have a wonderful weekend!

November's Instructional Strategy- Student Self-Assessment
Inside, Outside Circles
Students count off by twos. The ones stand and form an inner circle, facing outward.
The twos stand and each faces a one, creating the outer circle. The teacher asks a
focus question or poses a statement for discussion, for example, “What’s one thing
you like about your work today?” Each partner has a brief, teacher-designated amount of time to respond to the question. At the end of the time, the teacher signals for quiet attention and directs the outside circle to take a step to the right to face a new partner. The teacher then asks a new focus question. This process repeats several times.
