Community Meeting on Reopening

Dear Mary Woodward Families,

Our school is preparing to give families the option of having students return in person part time! Using our state’s guidance on health and safety rules, as well as what we know about how to best teach students, teams are finalizing plans for a safe return to school. We will start with our kindergarten and first grade students and move up through the grade levels. Families will also have the choice of keeping their students in our 100% online program which will look very similar to our current programming.

We will have a community meeting so that families can learn more about these options next week on Thursday, January 28 at 4:00 pm. We will discuss how to choose an option for your student and how the rest of the school year may change for them. This meeting will have information that applies to all grades, not just kindergarten and first grade, so I would strongly encourage all families to attend. Here is the Zoom meeting link. A recording will also be sent out the following day for those who cannot make it. We will also create a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) resource page based on the feedback we receive and will share it with you following the meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you next week!

Jerry Nihill

Principal

New Staff Member at MW

We are pleased to introduce William Patiño-Cabrera to our Mary Woodward community. William joins our staff as our new Family Partnership Advocate (FPA). The FPA position is funded by dollars we received from the state as a part of the Student Success Act. The Tigard Tualatin School District is hiring FPA's for each school with the following intention in mind:

"Family Partnership Advocates will support basic needs, cultural sustaining practices, and empowering community voices to ensure success for students that break the predictability of outcomes as defined by race, socio-economic status, ability, gender, sexual orientation, or any other identity markers."

William is originally from Ecuador and has worked in a variety of settings. His work experience has focused on customer relations while working with Disney Cruise Lines, and with owning and operating a birding tour guide company in Ecuador. William also established a fundraiser for parent education in his hometown of Mindo. One of the goals of this organization was to provide workshops to promote equal rights for all children and women, and to prevent and stop domestic abuse.

We are very excited to have William join our Mary Woodward community!

MW PSO Information

Our next PSO virtual meeting is February 4 , at 6:30 pm. The link will go out as we get closer to this meeting. At this meeting Mr. Nihill will be giving his principal's report and answering questions, we will be discussing goals for next year, looking over our current budget and looking at our current need for volunteers for the 2021-22 school year. It's important to know that all positions are volunteer. The PSO board member positions are voted in by you, parents, guardians, grandparents and anyone who attends our meetings. Your votes matter. Currently all board positions are OPEN for the 2021-22 school year. These must be filled in order for us to continue to have a PSO board at Mary Woodward. Please reach out to any of your current board members with questions. Board positions will be voted in at our March meeting!

If you would like to provide input, please plan on attending. We begin at 6:30 pm. If you can’t attend, you can also send me an email at mwpsopresident@gmail.com with your thoughts/questions.
