A Message from the CEO

Susan Mauser

Thursday, August 25, 2022

Dear LVA Families,

I am very pleased to share that we are off to a great start to the 2022-2023 school year.

We are excited about being able to embrace more normalcy after a few years that have been severely impacted by the Covid 19 pandemic. This year's calendar is packed with activities and events.

LVA is also fully embracing our International Baccalaureate (IB) programs with an eye on the K-12 IB Continuum visit in January 2024.

Looking forward to a fantastic year,

Susan Mauser

CEO

LVA's New Facility

This will be our last year in the current location. We look forward to moving to our new facility at 2040 Avenue C, Bethlehem, PA next summer. The new building is less than a mile from our current location and will provide us with some much needed additional space.

The construction team is busy at work and are making great progress. It is exciting to see the walls being framed out and dry wall starting to be installed.

Check out the LVA website at https://www.lvacademy.org/school_information/new_k-12_campus for monthly updates or participate in the Facility Committee Meetings on the fourth Friday of the month at 6:30pm through Zoom. (https://lvacademy.zoom.us/j/85460178016?pwd=UGI3RjRnOGt1Zk1YZTRsUEFtb0RuUT09)

FREE Breakfast and Lunch

Lehigh Valley Academy (LVA) will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students for the 2022-2023 school year. If your child prefers a home prepared meal, please feel free to send your child to school with a packed lunch.

Menus are available through Linton's Smart Cafe at the link below:

https://www.myschoolmenus.com/instance/1075/district/1088

Please check menus frequently, as they are subject to change.

Your child(ren) will be able to participate in these meal programs without pre-ordering, paying a fee or submitting an application.

Lehigh Valley Academy is happy to offer healthy meals for breakfast and lunch.

Two lunch options are available:

● Main meal (includes meat)

● Vegetarian meal (meatless)

***For both breakfast and lunch, LVA implements “Offer vs. Serve”: Students have a choice of which food components they wish to take within the items on the menu that day (state mandated regulations apply). ***

Please note:

● Soda is not permitted at LVA.

● “Fast Food” is not permitted at LVA. If this type of food is brought into school, a parent will be required to supply another lunch that meets the lunch requirements or the student can eat the lunch provided by the school.

For any questions or concerns about the School Nutrition Program and/or special dietary needs, please contact Lynn Berndt, School Nutrition Program Coordinator, at L.berndt@lvacademy.org or (610) 866-9660 x4104

Arrival/Dismissal and Transportation

We have been in session for over a week now and our students have settled into their arrival and dismissal routines. Therefore, LVA will start to push the dismissal time back to 3:20pm in order to ensure that our students do not miss out on their instructional time.

For parent pick-up, please arrive on campus around 3:30pm. Please do not arrive on campus early. LVA has limited space in the parking lot to accommodate the lines of cars picking up students. Thank you.

Now that the other school districts are about to start school, we also want to make you aware that traffic on your way to LVA may make your trip take a little longer in the mornings. If you are dropping off, please plan accordingly or if you have a bus assigned, this may be a good time to start utilizing it.

If your child rides a bus, you may experience the buses running a few minutes late when picking up and dropping off or that the districts may substitute a different bus number. In most cases this is just a temporary situation.

Please keep your home school district's transportation department numbers in your cell phone. That way you have easy access if you need to contact them about a late bus while you are at the bus stop.

Health and Safety Plan

The most recent Health and Safety Plan (June 2022) is available at this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BYhuVxeUoEw3voGlMvScOH9KKQxDD_dv/view

LVA continues to follow CDC guidelines. These currently include a mandatory 5 day quarantine for individuals who test positive. Individuals who are considered close contacts are permitted to continue attending school as long as they wear a mask for 10 days (16 days if household contact).

Theater Productions

Lehigh Valley Academy is thrilled to share that we will be applying for the Freddy Awards with our High School musical in the spring! In order to be eligible, only students in grades 9 through 12 can participate in the production.

Therefore, we had to reconfigure our other musical productions starting this school year. There will be a grade 3 through 5 production and a grade 6 through 8 musical.

Auditions for the grade 3 through 5 musical Willy Wonka Kids will take place August 29 through 31, 2022. Contact Mrs. Colacito at l.colacito@lvacademy.org for more information or with questions.

We will announce the titles of the other two musicals later this school year.

Information about the dates of the performances and tickets will be available soon!

Athletics

For the 2022-2023 school year, LVA added PIAA Cross Country for Middle School students to the HIgh school boys and girls teams. The season is under way and our runners are looking forward to their first Invitational on Friday, August 26, 2022.

LVA will also be offering intramural Volleyball and Soccer this Fall. Competitive Community League Basketball will be available in the winter.
