Please help me in congratulating Karen Zimmerman, our School Social Worker, on her decision to retire at the end of the school year. Mrs. Zimmerman has been an unbelievable asset to our school community and she will be dearly missed. Please see the message below from Mrs. Zimmerman:
Dear Washington Families:
My request for early retirement has been approved by the School Board and I will be leaving Washington at the end of this school year. This decision is very bittersweet, because this has truly been a wonderful place to work. For the past 18 years at Washington and 27.5 years in the district I have been so fortunate to be a part of such a supportive community. I have had the pleasure of watching young children grow into these amazing human beings! I have seen the support that the families in this school community have given our school and other families to better enrich the lives of children. I have worked with the most dedicated staff of individuals who continually give so much each and every day to educate and nurture children. I can’t thank this school community enough for this wonderful journey.
Washington IS the best school in the USA!

During the month of March we are focusing on kindness, which is connected to our school goal of increasing a sense of belonging with our students. We will be using the hashtags #teamkindness and #wearewashington to share our acts of kindness on social media.
It was awesome to see our JK through 5th grade students so eager to share their appreciation of so many different people, groups and/or organizations last week. Click here to view pictures from the kindness project.
Upcoming Kindness Projects -
A kindness Bingo game will be sent home before Spring Break. This is a game that can be played at home with family and/or friends.
Tree of Kindness
A huge Kindness Tree will be created and located on the ground floor near the art room for all to see. Each student should have received receive paper leaves this week in their classroom. On one of the leaves, students will write about how they were kind to others. On the other leaf, students will write about one way others were kind to them. Leaves will then be placed on the tree prior to Spring Break. Extra leaves can be available if students wish to write about another kindness.

High Interest Day!
Our highly anticipated High Interest Day will be held on Friday, April 27th sponsored by the Washington PTA. On this day all Washington students participate in activities that are different than our normal academic learning. We have presenters from all over the Milwaukee area come to teach students how to dance, play field hockey, become a journalist and even decorate a cake to name a few.
Do you have a special talent you think students would enjoy; knitting, yoga, making ice cream or pizza? These are just a few things that we would love to have our students try. If not, maybe you know someone you think might be interested in presenting to our students on this day.
If you would like to present to our students fill out this form so we can contact you with more information.
