What are hard drives?

A hard drive, also known as hard disk drives, are used as computer storage. They connect to the motherboard using an ATA, SCSI, or SATA cable.

Electronic identification

Hard drives were first introduced September 13th 1956. it is mainly one or more platters (like small discs) which are contained inside an airtight case. They are normally 1TB, but can be 2TB or 500GB.


#TIP: new users to computers usually confuse the hard drives space with RAM (memory)!

History

During the 1990's, computer hard drives could only hold 1GB of information. In 2014, a desktop hard drive could contain between 500GB and 4000GB of information.
