Hello FUSD Staff and Community,
Monday is the final day of instruction for our regular school year, and its approach feels bittersweet. For many of us – staff and families alike – this has been an incredibly challenging year: supporting students through varied academic and social-emotional responses to distance learning, doing our best to limit the spread of COVID in our schools and community, and continuing to provide each student with opportunities to thrive despite obstacles. That last point is where the sweet comes in: this year we offered every student an opportunity to return to the rich and engaging in-person environment we are proud to create in our schools, students gained new skills and new knowledge, and we celebrated successes and achievements throughout our district.
As we close this year, let us all make time to mark and enjoy milestones along the way. If nothing else, the past two years have shown how precious and important our connections and time together is. I look forward to joining many of our staff, students and community at the upcoming graduations and end of year celebrations.
This is the final scheduled message of this kind for the school year, though work at FUSD will continue over the summer as we offer students additional learning opportunities and prepare for the year ahead. Please check your email and our website for updates, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter to receive information and get regular updates on our students, staff and schools.
I wish you all a restorative and enjoyable summer. The first day of school is August 17, 2022; I look forward to seeing you then and working together on another year of growth.
Thank you all for your continued support for our students, staff and schools.
Alameda County Indoor Masking Order Effective June 3; Masks Required in FUSD Facilities Starting June 9
Alameda County will require masking in most indoor public settings starting Friday, June 3, per a new Health Officer Order the Alameda County Public Health Department announced June 2. This does not apply to TK-12 school settings through the end of the 2021-22 school year, including our end-of-year student events and graduation ceremonies. Masking continues to be strongly recommended indoors in all FUSD facilities, and we invite students and staff to mask now in compliance with this Order.
Starting Thursday, June 9, all employees, students and others entering FUSD facilities will be required to wear masks indoors, except while working alone in a closed office or room, or actively eating and/or drinking. Please see the Order for exemptions for children under the age of two, and other individuals with specific needs.
Graduation Ceremonies
We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2022 next week and cheering as the graduates cross the stage, flip their tassels and head off into bright futures.
The graduation ceremonies for American, Irvington, Kennedy, Mission San Jose, Robertson, Vista and Washington high schools will be live streamed. Find streaming links and in-person attendance information at www.fremont.k12.ca.us/2022grad.
COVID Updates
During our summer break, COVID case notifications will only include those with on-campus exposure and/or those related to school-based activities. We will monitor all updated guidance from the state and Alameda County for schools in 2022-23; we will share information on our updated protocols as available.
Information and links to current requirements for FUSD students and staff will continue to be posted to www.fremont.k12.ca.us/covid.

At-Home COVID-19 Test Kits
In May we advised that testing kits would be distributed to all students and staff. We did not receive the expected kits, and will not be able to provide additional kits to students or staff this school year. We apologize for the inconvenience.
MAZE Process
MAZE is Fremont Unified School District’s annual registration confirmation process in which parents/guardians:
provide required information for each enrolled student - such as emergency contacts and current proof of residency,
acknowledge certain parent/guardian and student rights and responsibilities, and
access specific school forms/information.
Completing the MAZE process ensures your student’s school has accurate information, and allows families to view student schedules/classroom assignments and their teachers when that information is released in August.
MAZE forms for all FUSD students must be completed online through the Infinite Campus (IC) Parent Portal. The window to complete the MAZE process for the 2022-23 school year is July 18 through the first day of school: August 17, 2022.
We strongly recommend that you take a few moments and log into your IC Parent Portal now to address any access issues before the MAZE window, when wait times for support may increase. Each parent/guardian should have access to all of their enrolled students through their IC Parent Portal. Click here for IC Parent Portal troubleshooting and support.
Throughout the summer, parents/guardians will receive updated MAZE information at the email address indicated in the IC Parent Portal, and updates will be posted to both the FUSD and school websites.
2022-23 Enrollment is Open
FUSD is currently enrolling students for 2022-23 at www.fremont.k12.ca.us/enrollment. The first day of school is August 17, 2022.
Eligibility for transitional kindergarten (TK) is expanding: children who will be 5 years old between September 2, 2022 and February 2, 2023 can enroll in this free program for 2022-23 to get a head start in school and build their social, communication and independence skills.
NEW FOR 2022-23: FUSD is Offering Spanish & Mandarin TK Immersion Classes!
Spanish Immersion TK will be offered at Blacow Elementary School and Mandarin Immersion TK will be at Lila Bringhurst Elementary School.
Immersion education is an alternative educational model designed to provide students with fluency and literacy in two languages. In these programs, all students develop literacy in the target language first with the gradual addition of English.
