HMS Bearcat Bulletin
March 2019
A Note from Ms. Buschmann
Thank you to all who were able to join us for our annual Read-In day at HMS. We had a great day and hopefully shared our love of reading and the importance of being a life-long reader with students that day.
If you were able to join us, you may have noticed our new banner hanging in the lobby. HMS has been going through Professional Learning Community training this year, and the first part of that is developing a common Mission and Vision. Our Mission is "Bearcats, be your best! Classroom- Community- Character" which we hope conveys our dedication to not only teaching students but also helping them build relationships in the community and build the character traits necessary for success.
A colleague posted the video that I have shared below, and in light of the recent criminal investigation into cheating in the college admissions process, it seemed very relevant. While Lythcott-Haims' examples are extreme and center around parenting, I believe her underlying message is relevant for all of us. The end result (grade, college admission, or scholarship) becomes the focus of school instead of getting better in the classroom, in the community, or building character. When Dr. Lythcott-Haims talks about how kids need to do the "thinking, planning, deciding..." it rings true to what we see in the classroom. I hope you can set aside 15 minutes or so to watch and join with me in thinking about what we can do to continue to help students build their capabilities, not only in the classroom but also, at home, and in relationships rather than just check a list of accomplishments.
The make-up days for the snow/ice days we have had so far are February 18; April 18; and May 16, 17, 20, 21 and 22.
Trash Bag Fundraiser
The bags come in the following sizes:
- White- Tall Kitchen Bag: 15 gallon, 65 bags per roll
- Yellow- Large Refuse Bag: 39 gallon, 25 bags per roll
- Blue- Oversize Refuse Bag: 55 gallon, 16 bags per roll
All rolls are $10.
We are taking orders from now until April 9. Please return order forms and money no later than April 9. All money needs to be turned in with the order form. Bag pick up will be on April 30th. The bags are heavy, so any order of more than 3 rolls will need to be picked up; we are unable to send large orders home on the bus.
The homeroom with the highest sales will receive a pizza party and the top 3 individual sellers earn cash prizes. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and continued support. The order form is below in case you need to download an extra.
