A Message from Music Teacher, Mr. Dupea!

Hello Families!

I’m glad to have you all back in the music room again. Music this year is all about dancing to music, moving to music and playing instruments. Students will learn how to perform, create music, and appreciate all forms of music. September was all about learning basic xylophone and ukulele etiquette. Now that it is October, it is time to start exploring essential music elements, listening to various music from around the world, and building a repertoire list for us to perform this year. I’m excited to see the students grow!

Smarter Balanced Fall Assessment | 4th + 5th Grade

All 4th and 5th grade students in Washington state will take the Smarter Balanced Assessment this fall. This assessment is the one that should have taken place last spring but did not due to school building closures.

The fall 2021 SBA will be shorter than it has been in previous years. All tests have been shortened to be administered in a single online session. For SBA math and English language arts, students will take only a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) and not have a Performance Task (PT). The English language arts SBA is estimated to take 75 minutes and the math SBA is estimated to take 60 minutes. The tests remain untimed, so individual student testing times will vary. The fall tests are an extension of the 2020–21 school year, and thus students will be taking tests corresponding to their grade level in the 2020–21 school year. For example, a student who is a 4th grader in the 2021–22 school year would take a 3rd grade test in fall 2021.

Bryn Mawr Fall SBA Dates | October 18th-21st

*Please note that students in grades 3rd-5th will take the 2022 SBA this spring.
