Assessment
1. Describe how your mindset has changed or been validated.
I believe my mindsey was validated. Assessments should never be about the teacher. Assessments are to determine where the child is in their learning process. The assessments also help the teacher with their lesson plans if they have to make changes to their current lesson plan to fit the childs needs.
2. The 4 questions Lopez lists under “Defending our Assessment Practices”.
- Why are you participating in the assessments that you use with students?
- Can you share in explicit detail the value that you find in each assessment?
- Do you participate in assessments that you find no value in for students?
- Are you using an assessment you have no idea how to deliver, but are afraid to ask for help with?
2. How might you use these questions in your current or anticipated practice? What value might it add to your practice by keeping these questions in mind?
These questions can be very useful. These questions can help when you are picking out which assessment you want to use for your class. When picking out the assessment it is best to know what you are looking for. You need to pick the right assessment to assess the kids. Picking the wrong assessment can lead to questions not being answer correctly or teachers recieving the wrong information and planning the lesson that will not benefit the children. By using these questions it will help me to focus on assessing the child correctly and providing informative guidelines to create the lesson plan.
3. In what ways have you succeeded/failed to make students your partner in assessment?
With working with the head start, we use Teaching Strategies Goal and we have to work with the children to assess them. We observe them and document it. I like to challenge my kids. I have early 3 year olds and i will push them to make sure i am documenting to their best. You can be observing or assessing a child on a bad day and they can tell you they cannot count to 5 and you know they can count to 20. It is best to learn your students. You should be able to tell when your students are having a good day or a bad day.
