Principal's Pulse

We want to thank everyone for their generosity in fulfilling the needs of our Christmas angels. Thank you for your willingness to serve the needs within our community.

We hope to see everyone tonight for the PTA Family Movie Night and the showing of Inside Out. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Bring your children with you as we enjoy time together!

Next week, our 2nd - 4th graders will take their quarterly assessments according to the schedule listed below this section. Please encourage your children to use the strategies their teachers have taught them and to try their very best.

We want to thank our PTA and our volunteers for providing in special ways to our teachers and staff this week and next week. We have volunteers who cover for our teachers to allow them to have a special lunch bunch time off campus as well as allowing staff an extra long Christmas luncheon together. We love our volunteers!

Also, please note that December 18th is an early release day on the school calendar. School will be dismissed at 1:05 on Friday.

Keep reading with your children each night and discussing their learning with them. We appreciate your support in your child's education.

Hour of Code in Action

Our VAULT students participated in the Hour of Code during class this week. The students first watched a quick video tutorial featuring a coder from Stockholm who works for Minecraft. The students then used code to manipulate a minecraft-like game character, recreated various geometric shapes and learned about Javascript while coding to create a snowman. The link below is a short game created by one of the students using the code to manipulate the Star Wars characters that appear in the game. Click run to test it out and details to see the code.

Check out these 1st graders...

These students are totally enthralled learning about coding and having fun with technology!

3rd Grade Christmas Program

Tuesday night the gym was full as we enjoyed our 3rd graders sharing the Peace and Noel program for family and friends. The students showed off their learning of rhythm and sign language in addition to their musical knowledge in voice and talent. Thank you goes to Mrs. Beard, our new music teacher, for working with the students each day in class and for preparing for programs such as this one.

Principals' 100

We have some terrific students! They show their Panther PRIDE (productive, respect, integrity, determination and excellence) each day, and we appreciate our students' work ethic and character. These are just a few of our students who were awarded a Principals' 100 honor this week. We have "mystery" staff members and volunteers who are on the lookout each day for outstanding students.

UIL Winners

Here is the final list of UIL winners. We placed 2nd overall in the competition, and we are proud of our young panthers! Congratulations to these children for their hard work!

2nd Graders Travel to a Manufacturing Plant Without Leaving the Building

We want to thank Cory Jensen, one of our local VA residents, from Big Game USA for providing this engaging virtual field trip for our learners. Mr. Jensen was in our library with our students while we Skyped with an employee who used her iPad to take us on a tour of the plant. The students were able to see each individual step in how they produce footballs which is quite interesting. This field trip was part of the economics unit and focused learning on goods and services. Big Game USA makes the footballs used by universities, such as Texas A&M, as well as the footballs that our own VA Panthers use on Friday nights. We appreciate Mr. Jensen bringing the real world into our classrooms.
VAULT Students' Newspaper

Our VAULT students created this newspaper in November covering details from different happenings around campus last month. They are building on information gathered from last year's field trips in this real-life writing activity.

Volunteer Background Check Form
