Newsletter Week 5 Term 3
Sacred Heart School Christchurch - 26 August 2022
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
We are delighted to have our latest building work completed. Our new outdoor learning space is nearly ready for use. Feel free to pop in and have a look at the finished product. Our Junior students are planning how they will make use of the area.
Just this week we have had two children test positive for Covid and another family isolating due to a family member testing positive. It is a reminder that we still need to be vigilant with anything that looks like symptoms of a cold.
As you will have noticed the end of Spencer Street at Lincoln Road has been blocked off and work will continue for at least the next month. Please allow for delays in the morning as traffic may get heavy around Addington.
In Week 7 we will be starting a school wide Science Unit of work. It will be launched on the 6 September with a Science Taster Day where children are encouraged to come to school dressed as a scientist ready to be entertained, amazed and awed with a range of scientists visiting the school for the day. More details will come home soon.
Another good week on the basketball court with narrow losses from both teams. It is great to see the skill level of the students improve each time they play. Thank you to all the parents who come down and support the teams each week, it is really appreciated.
Athletics training will begin next Thursday for students in year 4-8. They are reminded to bring their sports gear and sports shoes for this as it is very difficult to run, jump and throw in school uniform.
Junior students will also begin a run, jump, throw programme shortly targeting the foundation skills needed for athletics.
School athletics will be held early in term 4. More information about this will be sent home closer to the time.
Social Justice Week
Social Justice Week 2022 runs from September 4-10 and focuses on the topic of racism. All classes will be learning about saying “NO” to racism and being one in Christ during religious education lessons in the first week of September.
There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Wednesday 24 August is the Feast Day of St Bartholomew. Bartholomew the Apostle is one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. He is the patron saint of Armenia, bookbinders, butchers, Florentine cheese and salt merchants, Gambatesa, Italy, leather workers; nervous diseases, plasterers; shoemakers; tanners, and trappers. Along with Saint Jude Thaddeus, he helped bring Christianity to Armenia. He is the patron saint of people who work with leather and animal skins.
Digital Technology is a big part of everyone's lives and Internet safety should be a big priority at home. Your children are taught about how to keep safe while at school and sign agreements on acceptable use. Below is a link to a parent guide to Instagram from ‘Netsafe’. It talks about the use of this application and gives Netsafe’s top tips about online safety for Parents.
The staff carpark is an out-of-bounds area. This includes parents coming into school to collect children. We ask that you use the pedestrian gate to enter and exit the school. To ensure children’s safety please do not park on the yellow lines or close to the crossings when dropping off or picking up your children. Also, please respect the neighbours of our school by not parking on their grass or driveways outside their houses.
We are heading towards having a full roll very soon. In saying this, we have very few places available for next year. Hopefully, we have included any siblings to come in on our list. If you have or know of any children not on our list to start next year can you please get someone to contact us.
