The First Amendment (Freedom of Speech, Religion, Press, Assembly and Petition)

The First Amendment talks about some rights that the people of the United States have. They have the Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Assembly and the Freedom of Petition.

Freedom of Speech

Now don't think that just because you have the freedom of speech you can say anything you want. You can say whatever you want until you affect or hurt other people. For example you cant go into a movie theater and yell "Fire" because everybody could start running and people could get hurt. Another example of Freedom of Speech is as simple as somebody having a bumper sticker that says Obama & Biden 2012 because they are supporting something that not everybody supports. I believe that people should have the Freedom of Speech because I feel that everybody has the right to express themselves and say what they want. I also agree that they should be able to do that until that affects other people
Black Friday Shoppers Get Trampled At Target

The video above shows people rushing through Target on Black Friday. I thought it went along with my example of the movie theater for Amendment 1 in Freedom of Speech.

Freedom of Religion

In a light of Freedom of Religion it means that you can have any religion you want when living in the United States or even no Religion at all. An example of this is that my cousin has no religion. Her parents decided that they didn't want to have any religion and that is ok because they have Freedom of Religion. I believe that that you should be able to practice any religion that you want or none at all because i think that is your decision to deiced that not anyone else's.

Freedom of the Press

The First Amendment protects the freedom of the press. Before the American Revolution, English authorities often censored the press in order to ensure that articles critical of the government were not widely circulated. The Founding Fathers knew that a free press was essential for the United States. I think it is good that we have freedom of the press because people should know what is going on in the world and in the government.

Freedom of Assembly

Freedom of Assembly means that you can gather a group of people to talk about things without getting worried that the government can punish you. There is one exception though if you are a leader holding a meeting of people and you are all discussing bad things about Taylor Swift, everything to that point is fine. Then the second you open your mouth and say something like "at 4:00 on Sunday January 6 I want everybody to go find Taylor and kill her or kidnap her. Then you are suddenly held responsible and can be punished if anything bad happens to her. I think that the freedom of assembly is good because it would be awful to live life worrying that you can get punished for holding a meeting.

Freedom of Petition

Freedom of Petition is going against the government on something. An example of this is women's rights. While that was going on women all over america were petitioning against the government because they want to have the same rights as men. I think that it is right that you can protest because you should be able to express what you want to the government.

The Second Amendment (Right to Bear Arms)

The Second Amendment deals with the right to bear arms. Way back the British took weapons away from the citizens and when we became the United States we always wanted to be able to have weapons. But when they made that amendment official they defiantly weren't thinking of nuclear weapons and things like that. A current example of this is the shooting in Connecticut. Many people now think that guns should be banned, some people think that there should be better background checks before a person is allowed to get a gun. Also there are still many people that believe that guns are 100% ok and everybody should always have one on them. In my opinion I think that there should be very through background checks on each person who gets a gun. I think that because there are a lot of people who go shooting on a range or hunting for deer and that is their hobby. I don't think that people should not be able to do something that they enjoy.

This video has some sounds that different guns make when they fire. I thought this went along with Amendment 2 since it is dealing with the Right to Bear Arms.
