Counselor Corner

Hey Parents, are you frustrated with the answer to the question: How was your day? The trick is to ask about things that are specific, but still open-ended. Move beyond "fine" and "nothing" by asking your student to describe their world. It's also great to start the conversation with a story from your own day. Try one of these conversation-starters:
  1. Tell me about the best part of your day.
  2. What was the hardest thing you had to do today?
  3. Did any of your classmates do anything funny?
  4. Tell me about what you read in class.
  5. Who did you play with today? What did you play?
  6. Do you think math [or any subject] is too easy or too hard?
  7. What's the biggest difference between this year and last year?
  8. What rules are different at school than our rules at home? Do you think they're fair?
  9. Who did you sit with at lunch?
  10. Can you show me something you learned (or did) today?

If you think your child would benefit from therapy and you’d like to set it up through school with Parkway’s school-based therapist, please contact Allison Litzenberg (Social Worker) at 651-744-5241 or True Thao Counseling at 952-405-6038 to schedule an assessment. True Thao can work with uninsured or UCare, Medica, HealthPartners, Medical Assistance, Medicare insurance (he’s not in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield MN).

Health Corner

Hello parents/Guardians of scholars at Parkway Montessori Middle School.

I hope this school Newsletter finds you well and sound. I would like to remind you that our school immunization exclusion will start on October 27, 2021. Letters 1 and 2 have been sent home as well as robo calls. Please if you know you got those letters, remember to get all the missing immunizations done before the above exclusion date. Any absence due to immunization lack of compliance will be unexcused. Parkway Montessori School will appreciate your cooperation with this. Thank you so much for your efforts to help us keep our scholars at school to learn and achieve their academic goals.

Also, Winter is fast approaching, if you have a scholar who has asthma, please remember to send inhalers and asthma action plans to school as soon as possible. Once again, thanks.

Together, we can make a difference in our scholars’ academic lives

Sincerely yours,

School Nurse (Chi Obasi)
