The Firebird Flyer
Shoreland Elementary September 2022
A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DEDO...
Dear Firebird Families,
I love the beginning of the school year at Shoreland. Students are excited to be back and there's a sense of wonderment and curiosity about what the school year will bring. Just as each January 1st has people making New Year's resolutions, I think the beginning of the school year is the perfect time to make a list of YETs. What will I learn this school year that I don't know, YET? What skill will I master this school year that I can't do, YET? What new friendships will I make that I don't have, YET?
There's a wonderful children's book titled, "The Magical Yet". This book by Anglea DeTerlizzi, reminds both children and adults the power of the word, YET. In the book Angela writes,
"Yet's a dreamer, a schemer,
a hope-er, a try-er
A maker, a do-er,
a gotta-fly-higher.
This Yet finds a way,
even when you don't.
And, Yet knows you will,
when you think you won't.
With The Yet as your guide, along the way,
You'll do all the things you can't do today."
This school year, the Shoreland staff, along with The Yet, will help our students master new skills, develop their talents and grow emotionally as they find joy in accomplishing all their YETs!
The best is YET to come,
Kimberly A. Dedo, Principal
From Mr. Bott, Associate Principal...
Dear Shoreland Families,
Thank you all for your patience as we get familiar with our new procedures during arrival and dismissal. These procedures are in place for the safety of our students and their families. The procedures are working; however, we need your continued support help in following the rules and procedures.
SAFETY REMINDERS:
- NO PARKING ALLOWED ON EAST HARBOR
- TRANSPORTATION CAN NOT BE CHANGED AFTER 3:00 PM
- NO EARLY DISMISSALS AFTER 3:00 PM
- IF YOU SEND IN A NOTE STATING YOU WILL BE PICKING UP YOUR STUDENT AFTER SCHOOL PLEASE STATE WHETHER YOU WILL BE PICKING THEM UP IN THE LOOP LINE OR BY FOOT AS A WALKER
- IF YOU ARE USING THE CAR LOOP CONTINUE TO PULL FORWARD UNTIL YOU ARRIVE AT THE DROP-OFF/PICK ZONE.
Arrival Car Loop (8:30 a.m. - 9:05 a.m)
- No cars should be parked in the loop line.
- Staff will be available in the car loop starting at 8:35 am
- The merge point will utilize rotating cars left to right using a zipper merge. Video
- All students receiving breakfast should enter Door 1.
Dismissal Car Loop (3:20 p.m. - 3:35 p.m)
- Please CONTINUE to pull forward until you arrive at the drop-off/pick-up zone. Keep pulling forward!! Even while you are waiting for dismissal. This keeps cars off of East Harbor Drive.
- Please be attentive at all times, this helps move the process quickly.
- The merge point will utilize rotating cars left to right using a zipper merge. Video Please come all the way down to the cone before merging as this utilizes our space.
- Families should have their Pikmykid number ready or announce that they are in the loop line using the Pikmykid App.
We will continue to have to make small changes as we deal with upcoming weather conditions. Our goal is that these procedures will become second nature to families.
