Castle Rock Weekly News

Week of August 20

Week 2

Thank you for joining us for the welcome back events and Back to School Night! It has been a joy to start the school year with your children! In the summer, the campus was too quiet and now we have the sounds of laughter, tetherball chains, and group discussions bringing the school back to life.

As we resume Week 2, WVUSD has emailed all parents and staff that we are watching Topical Storm Hillary and will be open for school on August 21, 2023, as we have not experienced significant impact. Safety will remain our priority as we monitor our weekend's weather. Please see your ParentSquare messages and/or the copied letter below.

For school drop off, both gates will be open at 7:50am. If it is raining in the morning, the MPR will be open until 8:10am then students will be directed to class.

Transitional Kindergarten

Congratulations to our TK students who have completed their first week in school. We are so proud of their transition and we are even more proud of our parents who have allowed their child to explore classroom learning. Thank you for all your support!

Popsicle Hotline!

At Castle Rock we believe in the Power of Moments! Our 4th and 5th grade classes earned a chance to call the "Popsicle Hotline" at the end of the day on Friday! What a great way to celebrate the end of the first week of school! Thank you TK/Kinder partners who helped us pull it off.

Summer Loving

Have you ever wondered what happens in school while it's the summer? Well, our amazing custodial staff Mr. Morales and Ms. McNichols, district crew from Maintenance and Operations, Grounds crew, and our technicians in addition to our office works together to refresh our classrooms. Thanks to teamwork, our site is ready to welcome our families for the first day of school. I'd like to give a huge shout out to our site and district staff, Ms. Lotz and Mr. Sornoso who have all worked hard with our students in mind. #WVUSDisGREAT

Safe Drop off/Pick Up

During rainy day or inclement weather we will continue to open both gates at 7:50am for drop off and house students in the MPR until 8:10am. You are welcome to drop off at any designated areas. Please expect traffic on rainy/inclement weather and come early enough so that your child can be on time for instruction.

Front drop off at Castle Rock Rd, please use the entire section of the drop-off zone. We ask that all cars in the drop-off zone prepare each child's backpack with them in their seat so students can come out of the car whether your car is in the front, middle, or end of the zone. Parents/guardians should remain in the car. This will help all other cars fill in the drop-off zone so that students can enter school on time. Do not wait to exit the car at the front. Remember to leave space at our driveway and yield for the bus entrance.

Thank you for your dedication to the framework of dismissal!

Back Gate: We improved our dismissal each day. We hope you enjoyed our celebration with ice cream for the parents on Friday! We finished reuniting pick-up groups before 3pm! Your partnership in holding up your child(ren) name cards and standing in the designated areas was truly the key to our success.

Front Gate: We ask that the pick-up process follows the drive-thru line and please remain in your cars. With increased students in the front, we ask that you keep in mind of the following:

  • Follow all traffic laws and please do not make U-turns in the middle of the street. Keep in mind that our impressionable students are watching and buses are also on this street.
  • If you park and come out to pick up your child(ren), please do not stay in the grass area. We ask that you reunite with your child(ren) and return toward your car so that our teachers on duty can supervise students. We have noticed groups of parents staying in the dismissal grass zone and blocking the teachers' view of students who are still waiting.
  • Use the crosswalks, so that our students see all adults modeling safe traffic practices and we build environmental safety skills with our students. Please see the pictures below. Use the designated crosswalks, look both ways, and please hold hands.
