Office for Schools

Diocese of San Diego – October 2015

Welcome!

Dear Catholic School Friends,

A Prayer for All Saints Day

Let us pray today.
Almighty ever-living God,
By whose gift we venerate in one
Celebration
the merits of all the Saints,
bestow on us, we pray,
through the prayers of so many
intercessors,
an abundance of the reconciliation
with you
for which we earnestly long.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the
unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Saint Martin of Tours Academy working to be the first Fair Trade Elementary School in California

St. Martin Academy has been promoting fair trade through fundraisers, gift giving, and the education of students, parents and staff for several years. Now SMA is working towards becoming the first fair trade elementary school in California.

Fair Trade is a market-based system for sustainable development whereby importers and retailers pay a premium price to farmers, farm workers and artisans who commit to grow and produce goods in accordance with rigorous standards that guarantee worker rights, community empowerment, protection of natural resources and environmental sustainability. Choosing fair trade certified products, ensure a fair price and a better life for those who are struggling in developing countries.

To become a Fair Trade School, a committee is formed consisting of staff, parents and students. Students are educated and empowered through fair trade curriculum to be conscious consumers. In addition, the school commits to using fair trade products on campus. (soccer balls, coffee, tea, etc.)

The fifth Grade students recently joined fair trade retailers and supporters from all over San Diego at the La Mesa Fair Trade Gift Fair. The class sold chocolate, coffee, tea and home décor products through the Catholic Relief Services Fair Trade Community Sales and Equal Exchange. All proceeds will benefit their sixth grade camp fund.

STAR Assessment NEW Updates

Fall Testing Window Extended: In response to requests from the schools we will be opening up the fall testing window on November 2nd and closes on November 20th. This extra week is a one-time extension that will not be repeated in future windows.

New URL:

Now that our switch has officially happened for all schools, every diocesan school will use the following URL to access all of their Renaissance products: https://hosted160.renlearn.com/270302/

Please note that your old URL will no longer work to access your star products.

Set Up:

If you need help setting up your Renaissance testing please access the “Steps to complete BEFORE administering STAR” document in the Google Drive. For all other questions, please contact your personal STAR coach.

Professional Development:

Renaissance has created a digital professional development platform called Renaissance U. Renaissance U provides tutorial videos, guides, and other resources that will increase the impact of STAR in your classroom. Finally, each site has a coach provided by the company to give live support over the first year of implementation. This coach will help with implementation, administration, data analysis, and using STAR to drive individualized instruction in your school. This coach is available by phone, e-mail, or video conferences. This coach will be your main support for your schools implementation of STAR.

Diocesan Testing Window:

The three STAR testing windows this year will be November 2nd-20th, February 8th-19th, and May 16th-27th. You will have access to administer the tests anytime throughout the year, but are required to once during each testing period for math and reading.

Diocesan Prayer

Lord, Jesus,

through the intercession of our patron saints,

San Diego and Our Lady of Refuge,

we beg you for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit

upon all of us called to be your disciples

and members of your Church.

Bless us to be obedient servants,

as you were obedient

in loving response to the Father’s love,

and to love one another

as you have first loved us.

Bless us with happy marriages and holy families,

with bishops, religious, deacons and priests

to image your presence among us,

and with dedicated lay people,

both married and single,

to be signs of your love in the world.

Help us to embrace

the mission you have entrusted to us,

in lives of fidelity, holiness and compassion.

San Diego, pray for us.

Our Lady of Refuge, pray for us.
