Where to Go For Help
- In September and October, all seniors were invited to sessions that gave them more information about what they should be doing to prepare for next year. We had college admissions folks from Hawkeye Community College, Wartburg College, University of Iowa, University of Northern Iowa, and Iowa State University. We also had a session on how to fill out the Common Application.
- This year we added a Career Fair for opportunities in the Skilled Trades. We had representatives from Young Plumbing and Heating, CFU (Cedar Falls Utilities), McDonald Construction, Story Construction, Cedar Valley Steel, and Built by Pros. The representatives shared information and then students were encouraged to visit with them. These jobs are in very high demand right now and there are so many opportunities available.
If you still need help completing your FAFSA, please check out how to make a virtual or in-person appointment. We can also help in the CFHS Counseling Office.
Last Dollar Scholarship-College for FREE!!
Iowa Community Colleges offer the Last Dollar Scholarship for high-demand careers in our state. Please check out this information about what community colleges offer programs that are FREE to students who apply and fill out the FAFSA.
We're excited that the 2022-23 financial aid application process is well underway and want to draw your attention to one of the state's newest and most popular financial aid programs, the Future Ready Iowa Last-Dollar Scholarship.
The Last-Dollar Scholarship saw more growth than any other state aid program in the last year. We encourage you to share the following message with seniors (and juniors who are planning ahead) at your school who may be interested in pursuing training and a career in one of Iowa's fast-growing, high-demand professions.
Do you plan to earn a certificate, diploma, or associate's degree to work in one of Iowa's high-demand jobs after completing high school? The Future Ready Iowa Last-Dollar Scholarship may cover your tuition. If all other available state and federal financial aid falls short of paying for your tuition, the Iowa Last-Dollar Scholarship is there to fill the gap.
To apply for the Last-Dollar Scholarship for the 2022-23 academic year, you have to enroll full-time in an eligible program of study and complete the FAFSA. Junior Class of 2023
Junior Year Scholarship Opportunity
Uncommon Students are Tomorrow's Leaders
Are you an uncommon high school junior who would like the opportunity to earn $11,500 to further their education?
The goal of the Uncommon Student Award (USA) is to challenge young Iowans to be uncommon as it relates to Herbert Hoover’s values and ideals, then reward them with money for college.
Applicants are evaluated on standards other than grades, test scores, and financial need. The students propose and complete civic-minded projects of their own choosing and should be something in which they are passionate about. We'll choose 15 students from all over Iowa based on the merits of their proposal - and each will earn $1,500 upon completion of the program!
The 15 finalists will spend the summer working on their projects and will present their results in October, and four of them will earn a $10,000 scholarship to the school of their choice!
