6th Grade Clean Water Field Trip
Author Chris Van Dusen
Chris Van Dusen traveled all the way from Maine to meet with students in grades K-3 to share his work and life as an illustrator and author. His newest book, Hattie & Hudson, is a story of acceptance and friendship, and Chris shared his writing process with our young writers. He also gave us a video tour of Maine to show us what inspired this story. After months of writing, he knew something just wasn’t right and he re-wrote the entire story, changing the main character from Henry to Hattie and writing all new text. What a message of grit and the importance of revision during writing for our students!
Special thanks to our friend Miss Ellen at Booktenders for bringing Chris to our school and to those who purchased books. Be sure to check out all of Chris’s books in the library and then be on the lookout for a hidden Mr. Magee in all of his stories!
