Holy Rosary School Derby
NEWSLETTER / TERM 2/ WEEK 2/ 18th October 2023
Message From Miss Melanie
Welcome back to the final term of 2023. We have some exciting activities planned, including a whole school pool party, Christmas Concert, Year 6 Graduation and our End Of Year Mass and Awards Assembly.
Just a reminder that we now start our school day at 7.50am, school gates still open at 7.35am. Our extra play time at recess has been received well by all the students and they are enjoying the extra time to shoot hoops, play chasing or climb on climbing frames.
We are fundraising to upgrade our Senior Playground so please support our Containers for Change by donating your containers to our account. So far we have raised around $800, thank you to the families that have donated cans. We still have a long way to our $5000 target so keep them coming. Please encourage families to support us where they can, or encourage members of the community.
Finally, we are providing a Kindy program for five days per week next year. If you have or know any families with Kindy aged children, please encourage them to enrol in our child-centred program with Miss Caroline. Places are limited and filling quickly, so don't miss out!!

Holy Rosary Feast Day
On Thursday 12th October we participated in a whole school liturgy for the feast day for the Queen of the Holy Rosary. Monsignor Paul officiated and some of our year 5/6 students volunteered to read the Prayers of the Faithful. The messages shared during the liturgy were how special Mary was and how special she is to our faith, how she was Jesus' mother and therefore is a mother to us all, and that she dedicated her whole life to Jesus.
If you would like your child to be baptised and participate in the Sacramental program and you are not Catholic in 2024, please give your name to Miss Jenna.
On Tuesday 24th October a group of 10 year 5/6 students who have high attendance have been selected to participate in the Kimberley 9's football program at Cable Beach in Broome. This attendance strategy was developed by the Fremantle Dockers to encourage attendance to be maintained at school. We look forward to the great pics from the day in our next newsletter. Thank you to Miss Bec, who will be the supervising teacher on the day and to Mr Elijah who will also be supervising.
On Friday 4th November the year 3/4 classes will be attending the Multi-Sport Carnival in Broome and playing Soccer. We have been lucky enough to secure some sponsorship to cover the hire of a bus, to allow this opportunity to happen - we thank Football Future for their kind support. This carnival also will allow our students to show off their soccer skills after a fantastic coaching program delivered by Football Futures through the Sporting Schools grants, the students have really enjoyed the coaching provided by Coach Art. We look forward to the great pics from the day in our next newsletter.
Proposed changes to the Holy Rosary School Uniform
I would also like to propose a new design for our school shirts. The school shirt has not changed for many years and I think that we could have a more modern design that is eye catching, is a cooler fabric and still identifies our Holy Rosary School community.
A survey link is included below and the survey will be open until FRIDAY 27th OCTOBER, 2.30pm. This will allow us to get feedback from the school community and begin the process of organising the new design in preparation for the 2024 school year, if the change is going to go ahead. If the change goes ahead the old shirts will be phased out over a period of 2 years. Cost of the new shirts is approximately the same as is the UV rating.
