Holidays Around the World
Second graders broadened their horizons with studying holiday traditions and customs around the globe. This detailed lesson allowed students to learn geography, flags, food, language, music, and other facts about different countries. Highlights from Italy were learning about La Befana, the Eiffel Tower from France, making Poinsettias from Mexico, and singing carols from Germany.
The Gift of Giving
First graders shared kindness and compassion while working with Mountain Opportunities Center. Students completed a service learning project where they raised money for clients who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through many giving parents and students, first graders were able to provide each client with a $15 dollar gift. The gifts were chosen from a list of items they provided. Unfortunately, the snow prevented the visit and delivery of gifts from students. When the teachers and assistants delivered gifts, they were welcomed with enthusiasm and excitement from clients. First grade hopes to reschedule the visit so students and clients can meet.
Santa Shop a Success
Santa Shop is an opportunity for students to purchase gifts for family members and friends. With the help from teachers and volunteers, students learn valuable lessons on how to budget, select appropriate gifts, make purchases, and handle money. Purchases are even packaged for easy delivery. Santa Shop is so much fun they don't even realize they are learning.
Student Achievement Celebrated
The Mega Party gave students the opportunity to celebrate and reflect on their accomplishments! Students have the opportunity to earn PAWS for good behavior, excellent work ethic, and most importantly showing respect and citizenship to others. The Mega Party allowed students to kick off their shoes and have a little fun!
Exciting Time of Year
December is an exciting time of year. Students have the opportunity to work on special projects like Gingerbread houses, elf applications, or writing letters to Santa all while learning and making memories they will never forget. Our faculty and staff wish you a safe and happy holiday season!
