Message from Dr. Malally
Good Morning!
There are only 13 days of school left, and so many things happening at Condit in these last few weeks. Be sure to check with your students' teacher or room parent about upcoming events. We did reschedule the Parents versus Students Kickball game to this Wednesday 5/29. You can still use the same Sign-up Genius to sign up. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0b4fa5ae2daafb6-parents If you already signed up, just show up at the time you signed up for. Student Council will have waters and Gatorades for sale.
This past week First Grade Teacher, Mrs. Loeffler has been out in all of our grade levels doing some amazing things. For the past few years, Mrs. Loeffler has been trained in TEAL- Technology Enhanced Arts Learning and Social Emotional Learning as a component of TEAL. This training has been part of grant that CUSD applied for. Each school in CUSD has a teacher trained like Mrs. Loeffler. The lessons she provided in K-6 were perfect for Mental Health Awareness Week and the conclusion of CAASPP testing for our 3-6. Mrs. Loeffler will continue the implementation as we move into the new school year.
This Friday, May 31, is Field Day. Mrs. Gariador is coordinating this fun annual event. If you can volunteer for a couple of hours we would appreciate it. There is a sign-up sheet in the office, and also outside of the office. You can also email Mrs. Gariador at jgariador@cusd.claremont.edu.
Our students enjoyed an awesome Makerspace Week at Condit. All of the grade levels used their Computer Lab time this week to connect the Next Generation Science Standards to the projects they create. They built some amazing creations.
Have a GREAT week!

We are excited to be partnering for our second year with a fun, free, and truly easy fundraiser called Shoparoo! Schools nationwide are already earning hundreds and even thousands every year through Shoparoo and it’s a great opportunity for us to really make a difference this year!
Shoparoo is school fundraising made easy: the free app turns pictures of your everyday shopping receipts into cash donations and sweepstakes entries for our school! Yep, it’s that simple. No more cutting labels, selling door to door, or time-consuming coordinating. All you have to do is shop as you normally do, snap pictures of your receipts with the app, and voila Just shop, snap, earn!
Get started today:
1. Download the free Shoparoo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
2. Select our school from the list and start taking pictures of your receipts - shop anywhere, buy anything!
3. You can even select a grade to support and have fun with grade competitions!
There’s no limit to how much money we can raise with Shoparoo - the more supporters, the more we will raise for our school. Schools with just 40 supporters are earning an average of $1,000 every year. That’s free, easy money that we could be fundraising too. Check out shoparoo.com http://www.shoparoo.com/> to learn more about this awesome app!
Thank you for your support!

Student Use of Recording Devices
A student may not use a recording device in a classroom without the permission of the teacher and the site principal. (Education Code § 51512.) It is a misdemeanor to record in a classroom without permission. Parents should be apprised of this code section and told that students do not have permission to record in the classroom.
The statute protects the teacher and also the privacy rights of other students. If another student’s private conversation or (for example) answers to in-class questions is recorded, that would violate their privacy rights. Your BP 5131 (Conduct) incorporates this prohibition: “Any device with camera, video, or voice recording function shall not be used in any manner which infringes on the privacy rights of any other person.”
Also, Penal Code § 632a makes it a crime to record a private conversation without the knowledge and permission of all parties to the conversation. If a student goes around school with a hidden (or obvious) recording device, it could easily capture private conversations between students and adults, between employees, between other students, etc. Unless the student gets permission from all parties to every conversation that might be overheard by the recording device, which would be impossible, he/she is committing a crime every time a conversation is recorded. This Penal Code provision also provides for civil penalties (lawsuit + damages) against the person who does the recording.
Secret recordings are viewed by the Legislature as serious invasions of privacy. The statutes are not mere formalities. As parents, we suggest that you speak with your students regarding the use of a recording device at school, and the serious consequences that can take place if they do.
The next Sunday 100 Mile Club will be at Padua Park on Sunday, June 2nd from 4:00 - 5:00 PM. This will be the last Sunday event. We hope to see you there! ALL DATES ARE WEATHER PERMITTING.
We need more volunteers to help out at 100 Mile Club on Fridays, 1:00 - 1:45 PM (Primary) and 2:00 - 2:45 PM (Upper).
The 100 Mile Club in 2018-2019
We LOVE to have our family members join the 100 Mile Club, and want to include your miles in our school-wide goals. For any person that is not an enrolled student at Condit, we will continue to pass out "Guest" sticks. Students will continue to collect our usual sticks stamped with Condit on them, but the "Guest" sticks will be blue. If you are a family member that plans on joining the 100 Mile Club, please make sure that you are collecting the blue sticks for each lap that you do. Outside events will be credited based on the registration forms that indicate participants name.
