Principal's Newsletter
From the Desk of Ms. Clark
April 19, 2018
Dear Parents,
Spring is finally here, and it is surely filled with exciting days for our students. Please join me in congratulating our 2nd graders and 6th graders. Our 2nd grade students will celebrate their First Eucharist this weekend. This is such a special day in their lives. Our children learn that the Body and Blood of Christ are offered to us as food to nourish and strengthen us for our journey through life. What a special and joy-filled gift to receive.
Please also join me in congratulating our sixth graders who were sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit during the Sacrament of Confirmation. They have worked hard to prepare for this special sacrament of initiation by studying about our faith and completing service activities. May God bless them as they are now full members of the Catholic Church.
As you know, our Catholic identity is essential in every aspect of our school life and the main reason our school exists. I conclude with one of my favorite quotes that I hope to get framed for our school’s front lobby-
“Be it known to all who enter that Christ is the reason for our school.
He is the unseen but ever present teacher in its classes.
He is the model of its faculty, and the inspiration of its students.”
God’s blessings,
Ms. Clark

Summer Enrichment at SKD
2018-2019 School Year
The 2018-2019 school year will begin on Wednesday, September 5th for Grades 1-8. Please see the tentative calendar posted on our school website.
Third Trimester
Our third and final trimester has begun! Even though we are starting the last stretch of the school year, please continue to help us enforce the importance of good behavior and a solid work ethic with the children. Thank you, in advance, for supporting all that the teachers are doing during the school day to keep our students challenged by checking at home to see that homework and projects are completed.
SKD School Family Directory
We look forward to offering a Family Directory for the 2018-2019 School Year. The purpose of this directory is to provide parents an opportunity to communicate about rides, activities, play dates, and etc.
We feel it is important that there be open communication so that each parent can know what other parents/guardians believe and support. It is also important to know that others value the same things and are wiling to work together for a common purpose.
You will have the option to participate or simply opt out. Information will be coming home soon.
NOTE: This directory is ONLY intended for the private use of SKD and its families and its content may NOT be used for any other purpose, including mass mailings or advertisements of any kind.
Recycle Time
As we celebrate Earth Day next week, our SKD Environmental Club will be instructing our students about plastic pollution. They are also kicking off for a school-wide plastic water bottle collection competition next week. We are so proud of our students for making a difference by loving our planet.

Financial Aid
Applications for students who will be enrolled in K-12 during the 2018-2019 school year will be available for parents. Applications for Archdiocesan schools, parish schools, and diocesan high schools can be accessed at www.blocs.org or by going directly to https://online.factsmgt.com/aid
Please know that no parent who sincerely desires a Catholic education for their child at Saint Katharine Drexel School will be denied registration because of true financial hardships. Each parish will address this concern on a case by case basis for their parishioners. Any additional financial aid scholarship, in addition to the parishes’ subsidy, will be predetermined, and awarded by the parish, prior to the start of the academic year. Families who believe they are eligible and in need of this aid are asked to contact their local parish office and request a financial aid packet which will include the request for all pertinent financial information.
