ORCHARD VIEW PANTHER UPDATE
10/22/21
Happy Fall Y'all
What an AMAZING first 2 months of school. Mrs. Sarnelli and I have been in and out of all classrooms and we are noticing your children working hard and making progress. Their teachers are doing a wonderful job with instruction and working hard to close those gaps.
Classroom morning announcements and instruction begin at 7:50 each day. Please make every effort to arrive on time so your children can be in their seats by then. Remember that 7:50 is nifty but 8 is late. FREE breakfast is still available for ALL Orchard View students beginning at 7:30 in our cafeteria.
ANY student who arrives after 8:00 am will need a parent/guardian to come up to the front door to sign them in. The best thing is to arrive PRIOR to 8:00 and closer to 7:30 to ensure your children are on time and in-class learning right away.
Reminder #1: PLEASE keep your children home if they do not feel well. If they have any symptoms PLEASE keep them home and call the school. We will complete a screening to determine IF your child must stay home, get tested, or may return when feeling better.
Reminder#2: If anyone in your house s not feeling well, PLEASE keep your children home. If anyone in your home has gotten tested and you are waiting for the result OR has tested positive, PLEASE keep them home and call the school.
Reminder #3: Please make sure your email address is accurate and you are receiving our newsletters and communications as they are a vital link to the school and your child's success.
Reminder #4: Please make sure you can access SIS and your child's academic/grade information, so we can again work together to ensure their success. Progress Reports will be in there soon!
Reminder #5: When arriving at school, please make sure your child has their backpack ready, shoes, and masks on when the door is opened. The faster we get everyone out of the car, the faster they can get to class.
As always, don't hesitate to contact me with any questions and concerns, and thanks for all you do to support Orchard View Elementary School, the BEST of Delray!

Dress Code Policy
Please remember that ALL students must follow our Uniform Dress Code Policy. The policy is listed below. IF you need assistance with getting uniform shirts and bottoms PLEASE reach out. We have some to share with you. We appreciate your help and support with this. Research has shown that when students are in school uniforms, they help establish a sense of discipline among students, making them less likely to act out or break other rules. By removing fashion items that can often be distracting, uniforms help students focus on their schoolwork. Please reach out if you need assistance with this.
New OVES School Uniform Shirts $10.00 EACH!! Contact your child's teacher or front office to order!
The Register Your Ride portal will open on Monday, July 12. Parents and guardians must complete a brief registration to ensure their child is assigned to a bus. The child must have a student ID # to use when registering.
Registration must be completed by Sunday, July 25 or there may be a delay in assigning bus transportation. Students who do not register will not be permitted to use the school bus until registration is complete.
Facial coverings are optional on school buses for the 2021-2022 school year, and social distancing is encouraged at bus stops.
Answers to frequently asked questions can be viewed on the Transportation FAQ website. Other useful information is available on the Register Your Ride page. For additional assistance, contact the Transportation Call Center at (561) 357-1110.
Families & Communities
Celebrating & Supporting School Efforts!
Recently, the Florida Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support project (FLPBIS) awarded Orchard View Elementary 2020-2021 PBIS Model School status, recognizing our efforts to enhance student quality of life by implementing a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) framework. As a PBIS Model School, we demonstrate a commitment to positive outcomes for all students!
What is PBIS?
PBIS is a set of strategies based in behavioral and biomedical science that enhances student quality of life and reduces problem behaviors. National research shows that full implementation of this framework leads to improved student outcomes. By establishing this framework, we are developing skills, making changes to the school environment, acknowledging appropriate behavior, and using data to identify supports for our students.
PBIS Framework
PBIS Goals
1. Build safe, positive school climates
2. Enhance and support effective school systems
3. Include all stakeholder input and support
a) Faculty & staff
b) Students & families
c) Community members
1. Create environments that help students achieve success
2. Develop positive, supportive relationships among stakeholders
3. Prevent problem behaviors from occurring
4. Teach appropriate behaviors
5. Acknowledge appropriate behaviors of all stakeholders
Family and Community Members as Partners
As a part of these efforts, time and resources are dedicated to student, family, and community relationships.
Close participation of family and community members is crucial to success for students.
What can you do as a family member to support PBIS?
- Share your knowledge about how your child learns best and ways for supporting your child’s behavior, including background and cultural information, with your child’s teacher and school staff.
- Ask your child’s teacher about options for ensuring that home-school communication is maintained and that positive experiences, as well as any concerns, can be discussed proactively.
- Express your interest in your child’s education to your child and to his/her teacher. Talk to your child about the importance of education and positive behavior. Ask your child for specific examples that illustrate behavior demonstrating Tier 1 expectations throughout their day (e.g., “How did you show Respectful behavior during math today?”)
- Express your interest in the success of the school by reaching out to your child’s principal and classroom teacher to ask for options for engaging with and participating in areas of importance to the school.
- Share your understanding of issues your child may be facing that could impact his or her behavior with your child’s teacher. Ask your child’s principal and teacher how you can help to inform problem-solving efforts by sharing your understanding of issues facing the school and community.
What can you do as a community member to support PBIS?
1. Share knowledge about community resources with school staff and family members.
2. Provide and support the school’s access to resources
3. Look for opportunities to reinforce behavioral expectations and provide acknowledgements to students within community settings
Recognizing Hard Work
As a result of our work Orchard View Elementary is being recognized by the FLPBIS Project as a 2020-2021 PBIS Model School. To earn this achievement, schools must meet specific criteria that can be found on the FLPBIS Project website. This award demonstrates our commitment to positive outcomes for all students and helps us celebrate our efforts as we continue to strive for the highest quality implementation of PBIS.
