Geometry and Angles
By Larissa Wratney
Geometry Terms (Explained)
Adjacent Angles: Two angles in a plane which share a common vertex and a common side but do not overlap.
Angles: To rays sharing a common endpoint.
Complimentary Angles: Two angles that add up to 90 degrees.
Congruent: Exactly the same in size and shape.
Corresponding: Two features that are situated the same way in different objects.
Degrees: The unit of measurement used to measure angles.
Flip: See Reflection
Geometry: The study of geometric figures.
Glide Reflection: A combination of a reflection and a translation.
Line: The straight path connecting two points and extending for ever.
Line Segment: A part of a line.
Midpoint: The halfway point between a given set of points.
Non-Adjacent: Not adjacent or not next to.
Number Line: A line presenting integers in numerical order.
Parallel Lines: Two lines that never intersect.
Parallel Planes: Two planes that never intersect.
Parallelogram: A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides.
Perimeter: The distance around the outside of a figure.
Perpendicular: Intersecting Lines that form a 90 degree angle.
Ray: A part of a line starting at a specific point and extending infinitely in one direction.
Reflection: A transformation in which a figure is reflected across a line.
Rotation: A transformation in which a plane figure turns around a fixed point (like pivoting for you basketball fans).
Similar: Identical in shape, although not necessarily the same size.
Slide: See Translation.
Supplementary Angles: Two angles that add up to 180 degrees.
Translation: A transformation in which a figure is picked up and moved to another location without changing the figure.
Turn: See Rotation
