It's May!
As I got to school this morning, I flipped the page on the three calendars in my office and noticed that it's May. With May comes the proverbial countdown to summer. I have asked the staff to think of this in another way. Instead of a countdown of days, let's make the rest of our days count. We will be finishing our "testing season" soon, but the learning will continue. I'll continue to share our learning on twitter (@mertonint) so you can see the great things that our staff are doing for and with students.

8th grade graduation is June 11th
I know it seems like a long way off, but 8th grade graduation will be Thursday, June 11th at 7:00 in the gym. I have been meeting with a number of students about the specifics of their day and they have been awesome to work with. I'm meeting with any interested 8th grade parents on Tuesday, May 5th at 7PM in the library. Please contact me with any questions you might have.

Lab safety in 7th grade

7th grade families needed
It is the tradition in Merton that 7th grade families host the 8th grade graduation reception following the ceremony. Each family is to provide two dozen bars or cookies for the occasion. If you are interested and able to chair the event, please don't hesitate to contact the office.
5th grade BizTown
This year, our 5th graders had a great opportunity to visit BizTown. The program is affiliated with Junior Achievement and I can tell you the students had a great time. The teachers and chaperones had a great time, too! If you know a 5th grader, ask them about their day. I'm sure they have some great things to say about their experience.

Katie's Krops Garden help needed
Katie's Krops is an organization that grows crops during the summer months. These crops are then given to local food pantries. I was approached by some students who have a connection with Troybilt to start a garden here on school property. We are looking for volunteers to help out with the groundbreaking on Friday, May 15th. Please contact me if you are interested.
