From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Congratulations to all of our students who put the work in and auditioned for this year's All-County Bands! We heard a lot of wonderful auditions over the course of recording, and I was very impressed by the overall effort by our students. I strongly encourage everyone who did not take the opportunity to prepare an audition this year to go for it next year!
This year, 35 of our Winter Park Band students completed an audition for the All-County Concert Band and Symphonic Band. 20 of those students' auditions successfully earned them acceptance into the All-County Band ensembles. Those students are:
9/10 F2F Concert Band
Emily Strickland (flute, 2nd chair), Lilah Storch (oboe, 2nd chair), Curtis Culhane (Bb clarinet, 3rd chair), Jason Stephenson (Bb clarinet, 6th chair), Colin Anderson (Bb clarinet, 11th chair), Nathan Smith (Bb bass clarinet, 2nd chair), Taylor Ribaric (tuba, 1st chair), and Gabrielle Batas (percussion, 4th chair).
9/10 Virtual Band
Noah Fodor (bassoon)
11/12 F2F Symphonic Band
Mya Bell (Bb clarinet, 9th chair), Kaia Leavitt (alto sax, 1st chair), Charlie Schmitt (trumpet, 2nd chair), Cole Spencer (F horn, 2nd chair), Benjamin Johnston (trombone, 5th chair), Kang Muscatello (trombone, 6th chair), Nicholas Speir (bass trombone, 1st chair), Alexander Rodriguez (euphonium, 6th chair), Bradley Ribaric (tuba, 1st chair), and Charlie Storch (tuba, 4th chair).
11/12 Virtual Band
Madison Visconti (bassoon)
CONGRATULATIONS ALL!!
Participating in the All-County ensembles is a goal many, and perhaps all, of our Winter Park Band students should be striving toward. Audition materials for the All-County ensembles are taken each year from the FBA All-State audition materials. Even if you are not intending to audition for All-State, when materials for that audition are released in May of each year students should begin work on the material to prepare for the eventual All-County audition.
Solo & Ensemble performance week has arrived. I am very proud of the practice and preparation our students have put in towards preparing their individual performances. You should continue to hear lots of practicing, and most importantly final polishing, this week from your students while they are at home. Please encourage them to reach out for extra help if needed, or if only to get another run through in front of people under their belt before their performance is recorded.
As of writing this newsletter, the schedule for Solo & Ensemble MPA has still not yet been released. I will be sending out the schedule as soon as it becomes available from our FBA district.
Let's have a great week!
Mr. Clemente

From the Band Booster President
Week of February 21, 2021
Hello everyone. It’s hard to believe it is almost March! Please keep any eye on your email/newsletter/Charms calendar for updates. We will have a general booster meeting after spring break to talk about the remainder of the year, positions on the Band Booster Board that will be open for next year, and other important items, so please stay tuned. Good luck to all of the students with solo/ensemble this week. Have a great week ahead!

SOLO & ENSEMBLE MPA - VIRTUAL/PRE-RECORDED - 3rd Quarter Project
The schedule for Solo & Ensemble event recordings is now available. All students should write down their recording date and time on their solo and/or ensemble sheet music as a reminder, and enter their time into both their personal and their family's calendar. If you do not see your name on this recording schedule, we are expecting that you are recording your event individually and will send it in no later than Wednesday, February 24 on Canvas.
Solo & Ensemble Performance Recording Schedule
Solo & Ensemble MPA Schedule (Schedule for 2/26-2/27 will be linked here when available)
- All events will be pre-recorded.
- Students will then meet their adjudicator via video chat at a scheduled time on either Friday February 26 or Saturday, February 27 to receive feedback on their performance.
- If students wish to receive a rating for their performance(s), all rules printed in the FBA Handbook. For example, solos performed for a rating must have a piano accompanist.
- All students will still need to have an original copy of the work they are performing. Details on how to show proof of an original copy will be forthcoming from FBA.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
By following the link below, you will find a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you know a private teacher who should be added (or would like to be deleted), please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
