Curriculum at a Glance
Language Arts
Inferences was our reading focus this week. We looked at painting and still images and used our prior background knowledge and observations to make inferences about characters. Just like you can infer a person with their eyes closed and hands over their ears doesn't like what they are hearing, a reader can make inferences as well about characters based on the text and their own experiences.
We also wrapped up our animal expert books and are ready to take on our next informational endeavour - biographies. This week and next, we review what a biography is and what information is important to tell. Using our knowledge that we've learned these past weeks about main idea and details will help us write important biographies about our people.
Math
There's more multiplication and division to discover, but after this week, we're taking a break. While we will still be working on our fact fluency, it is time for us to move on to a new unit.
Next week, we will be exploring elements of time - telling time to 5 minutes (on an analog and digital clock) and elapsed time. Our explorers are gearing up and ready to be "Time Detectives." Where their journey will take them is an answer they'll find soon.
In Case You Missed It
Jog-A-Thon
Jog-A-Thon volunteers are still needed for our exciting event on Wednesday, February 26 from 9:20-10:20! Each classroom is in need of volunteers to help mark laps for our joggers.
For those who volunteer, you will be given a discount ($5 instead of $10) to purchase a Jog-A-Thon t-shirt should you want one.
Please let your child's teacher know if you are able to volunteer. Thank you!
