Distance Learning Plan

Learning Plan, Device Pick-up Schedule, & New Class Schedule

Big picture

Dear Minor High School Families,

We hope this letter finds you and your loved ones healthy and staying safe while at home. Even though our school building is currently closed, our goal is to move forward with new innovative styles of learning for our students. Since the last time we were together with students, our faculty has been attending training on how to utilize technology to support our remote learning program beginning on September 1, 2020.

I would like to thank you for your patience as we create a remote learning plan to reach our Minor High School students that involves over 75 classroom teachers. We know that remote learning cannot reasonably replace daily in-person instructional programs, however, we are working to ensure that we are providing our students with the best online instruction possible. We will continue to share information with you as it becomes available via phone calls, emails and on our social media sites. Please stay connected to us by following Minor High School on Facebook, Twitter and the school website.

Our Distance Learning Plan provides for students to continue learning in developmentally appropriate ways while being mindful of their health and safety. The plan includes the distribution of technology and the usage of online programs like Schoology and WebEx to deliver instruction. You will receive more information on training that will be available for you and your student in the near future.

For the next nine weeks, you will hear the terms synchronous and asynchronous used to describe the learning style your child will be practicing. In the simplest form, Synchronous (S) learning means direct instruction from the classroom teacher much like they would receive if they were sitting in class or working with their teachers in small groups. Asynchronous (A) learning is when your student will be working independently to complete their assignments online. Best description would be a student completing their class assignments outside of school, but with a teacher available online to assist them.

We have created schedules for students to participate in live learning sessions with teachers, office hours daily where teachers will be available online and an after-hours support program (3:00-6:00 pm) should any questions arise outside of the scheduled school day. Please review the schedule at the bottom of this letter so that you are aware of your child’s daily schedule.

We are missing you and looking forward to connecting with each of you soon.
