Hour of Code for Ages 4-104
This week is Computer Science Education Week and is held in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906). As part of this week, all students, parents, and teachers are encouraged to participate in the hour of code.
What is the Hour of Code?
A one-hour activity. The Hour of Code allows participants to experience the power of coding. Designed for ages 4 to 104, the event is an introduction to computer science that attempts to demystify code and show that anybody, even someone who doesn’t know anything about programming, can learn the basics.
Why should my students participate?
Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. So, Little Elm ISD educators, join millions of others and plan for an "hour of code" during the week of December 5-11!
Is it one specific hour?
No. You can do the Hour of Code anytime during this week. You're welcome to split up the Hour of Code into multiple sessions so long as your students finish the Hour of Code tutorial. Just do whatever works best for you and your students. (And if you can't do it during that week, do it the week before or after).
What technology do we need for Hour of Code?
The Hour of Code website includes resources for all types of devices including computers, iPads, and iPhones. The activities work in 1:1 classrooms as well as in classrooms with more limited access. It even has lesson ideas for classrooms that have NO technology!
Are there self-paced tutorials for my students?
Click here to access the self-paced tutorials. Most teachers would benefit from going through the tutorials prior to sharing them with students. Warning: you might have LOTS of fun while doing this!!!
Where can I access the teacher led Hour of Code lesson plans?
Click here to access a collection of one-hour teacher-led lesson and activity plans designed for different subject areas.
