Early Life

Peyton Manning was born in New Orleans in 1976,and his father was the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints. His father played QB for the Houston Oilers and Minnesota Vikings in his 14 year career. Peyton had 2 brothers, Cooper and Eli. Since Peyton was young, he had always had an interest in sports. However, his father did not push him to like sports.

Manning said "Dad never really pushed us into football. He never really let us play it on the playground. He never worked with me, like one-on-one passing drills, until I was a freshman in high school. It was always a situation where I had to come to him, ask him if he wanted to go work out. He never pushed me into anything." When Peyton was heavily recruited by Division 1 colleges, he read over each of them with caution. he could've gone to the University of Mississippi where is father had shined and made his mark, but instead went his own way by going to the University of Tennessee.

Getting Involved

Peyton Manning was involved in many charitable activities. He also visited and did speeches at schools. Not only regular every day things, but he also donates his time and money to the Louisiana Special Olympics. On 9/3/05, Peyton Manning and his brother Eli Manning paid enough money to get a broken plane back up and running to send it to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Peyton Manning also wrote letters to people that changed his life.

Starting Football

Though he attended the small private Isadore Newman High School and played basketball and baseball as well as football, Manning prepared for his future career by having his father teach him how to watch and analyze film of NFL games.During high school, named Gatorade Circle of champions National Player of the Year, and Columbus (Ohio) Touchdown Club National Offensive Player of the Year. When he was heavily recruited by Division I colleges, Manning was thoroughly prepared for each interview. To avoid his father's potentially stifling legacy, he chose not to attend the University of Mississippi where Archie Manning's star had shined its brightest, but instead carved his own path at the University of Tennessee.

Indianapolis Colts

He was the 1st overall selection in the 1998 draft and was selected by the Indianapolis Colts.Manning signed a contract which was the richest in NFL rookie history, 48$ million over 6 years. In his 1st year, he set the record for most passing yards in a season by a Colts QB. With the number of 3,739 yards also set the record for touchdown thrown by a rookie with 26. In 1999 his team went from the worst, to one of the feared teams in the NFL.
