Building Relationships at NP3!

Building relationships is essential to the success of students at NP3 Middle School. Relationships are so important to our school, it is part of the NP3 Charter and built into our daily schedules. Part of our Charter reads, "...establishment of a safe learning environment and significant and ongoing relationships with caring and involved adults through mentoring and internships, as well as through the regular school environment. By focusing on rigor, relationships, and exposure to expanded horizons, NP3...will develop educated citizens for the 21st century who can think analytically and be constructively engaged in critical issues."

Research from the National Middle School Association supports these beliefs and suggests Advisory Programs are key to building relationships necessary to promoting opportunities for social development, assisting students with academic needs, providing an adult advocate and positive school climate, and facilitating positive involvement between and among staff, students and home.

How are we doing with our Advisory Program anyway? We are doing amazing things! We are working hard to make a huge difference and it shows! Our most recent student survey data indicate 90% of students feel they are part of NP3 and 76% feel their Advisory is a strong community. Advisories are creating and building relationships every time we greet students at the door, create a safe learning environment, use the Circle of Power and Respect effectively, provide small group and one-on-one interactions, promote communities of learners, offer guidance with goal setting and grade checks and team building activities.

Way to go Pirates! Argh!
