Language Arts- Ms. Waxman
Welcome back! This year seems to be flying by, but we still have much to accomplish! We will be continuing our novel study of historical events...this time our focus will be on the Holocaust, with the novel The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. This week we will be learning some background information about both the Holocaust itself and our book's author. Students will also explore the lives of some of the children who were survivors of this tragic event.
For this quarter, your students nightly reading homework will take on a new twist. Students will be asked to read articles from TweenTribune, and take a brief comprehension on the article. They will also be doing some written responses based on what they have read. More details will be coming home with your students. If the internet is not available to them afterschool, they will be provided with hard copies of some of the current articles to work with. This assignment is not meant to replace the novel reading that the students have been doing all year, but should be an additional practice for them. Their reading time should be increasing to 30-45 minutes each day.
Math- Mrs. Holloway
This week in Mathematics:
Welcome back parents and students. We have about 90 school days left! Doesn’t sound like much when written like that. We still have a lot to accomplish. Please make sure your student has a spiral notebook, a 3-ring binder, or a composition notebook for class. If there is an issue, please email me or have your student come speak to me. We are continuing Unit 4-Functions. It is a short unit. We will be having our Mastery Assessment on this unit January 20th and 21st. Students will have homework Wednesday and Thursday this week. I strongly suggest that students look over their notes nightly. From now until the Georgia Milestones in April students will have homework most nights each week except Fridays. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. Looking forward to a great, fast-paced second semester.
Social Studies- Mr. Salser
We are starting the Post-Reconstruction era in Georgia. We will look into the industrial, economic and social revolutions of the last quarter of the 19th century and the political transformation of the South.
Tim Salser
Science- Mr. Anderson
If the entire school year was a football game, we just finished halftime. From experience, I know that the second semester goes by very fast. I expect more from students this semester and they will notice this right when they return on Wednesday. In our first week, we will be reviewing all of our learning on WAVES and taking a mastery assessment on Friday. Also, please check my website daily for announcements, daily activities and homework. It is fully functioning now and is located at: https://sites.google.com/a/gx.camden.k12.ga.us/physical-science---anderson/
