AMERICAN HEART MONTH

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART!

On Friday, January 29, 2016, our student body gathered to "kick off" our Jump Rope For Heart Fundraiser in support of the American Heart Association. During the assembly students learned about the importance of the heart, how it works, and how to take care of it. Teachers and students enjoyed getting up to "jump rope" together as we celebrated our school wide kick off celebration. Mr. Jason Blocher, our health teacher has weaved this message into lessons with the children in health class culminating in a school wide event where grade levels enjoyed an array of jump rope activities held in stations. Students also participated in a variety of related heart healthy circuits while in gym class throughout the month of February supported by Mr. Rick Johnson. Our current fundraising totals have exceeded $1,000.00!! Way to go, DN! Thank you for your support! Stay tuned for the final totals and enjoy some of the fun we had here at DN as shown below!

WINTER TASTING: FROM THE GARDEN TO THE CAFETERIA

With the help of Mrs. Brandes and Mrs. Anderson, our school garden coordinators, the herbs were dried for the winter and our students learned about the drying process. Mrs. Ellen Litzenberger, our cafeteria crew chief, taught us about the many wonderful healthy foods which are complimented by the herbs grown in our garden.
