This Week in Kindergarten...
Happy New Year!
Students came back from break brimming with excitement about their vacations and eager to start the new year. We began the week with a story about woodland creatures who make resolutions and talked about how it is good to set goals for yourself. We learned that a resolution is a promise you make to yourself to be better or to help others. Each kindergartner decided on a goal and wrote it down.
Snowflakes and Symmetry
For kids, the prospect of snow is always an exciting part of winter. So, in math this week, we combined that enthusiasm with learning about symmetry and created snowflakes. Students began by learning about a line of symmetry and how each side is like a reflection in a mirror. Then, they explored the concept further with pattern blocks. Finally, they each created a unique snowflake for display. What a beautiful sight!
The Science of Force
A force is a push or a pull that causes an object to speed up, slow down, stop completely, or change direction. Our newest science unit focuses on using force to change motion, and this week, we have been looking closely at pushes and pulls. Over the next couple of weeks, we will conduct various investigations that focus on gravity, simple machines, and magnets. Students will also learn how to use forces to build a toy with The Toymaker.
