Veteran's Day Celebration - November 8
The Blair Oaks R-II School District will be having its annual Veterans Day celebration on Friday, November 8, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. in the high school gymnasium.
Vietnam War Army Combat Nurse Donna Rowe will be this year's featured speaker. For 369 days in 1968-69, Captain Rowe was the head nurse of the combat trauma unit in the 3rd Field Hospital near Saigon. An outspoken advocate of our nation's wounded warriors, Donna has incredible firsthand experience of their courage, heroism, and sacrifice.
Our Veterans Day letter is linked below and contains more information as well as the list of service personnel who will be included in the video presentation. Please review the list and contact the high school office with names that should be added.
Serving Now or in the Future?
Last year during our Veterans Day assembly, we were able to recognize parents of students and family members of our staff that are currently serving or will be serving within the year. We would love to do that again this year.
Blair Oaks will be offering a free screenings for 3 and 4 Years Old - Preschool-aged children (not entering kindergarten) at the Elementary building on November 16, 2019. Kids Sight will be providing vision screenings, the school nurse will administer health and hearing screenings, and parent educators along with kindergarten teachers will administer the Dial-4 Developmental Screening. The screenings provide parents with information that will further support their child's learning. To schedule a free screening click here.
Parents As Teachers is a free, voluntary program designed to help parents give their children (prenatal through kindergarten entry) the best possible start in life. The program is built on the philosophies that babies are born to learn and that parents are their children's first and most influential teachers. The program offers personal visits by parent educators, group meetings and health and developmental screenings.
For more information about the screenings or Parents As Teachers, call Shauna Kerperin (573)619-4192 or email skerperin@blairoaks.org
Change Bandit
Our second quarter project is a partnership with the University of Missouri Children's Hospital called Change Bandit. The concept is simple: gather up loose change and make a big difference in the lives of children who come to Children's Hospital every day. We encourage you to ask family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers to donate their loose change to the fundraising effort.
We will have activities throughout 2nd quarter such as hat days and rock-paper-scissors tournaments to help raise money for this cause. More information will go home at a later date.
