This year's newsletter

For this year's parent newsletters, my goal will be to have one go out at the beginning of each month. If I need to add information to it during the month, I will do so and send out the same newsletter with the updates.

If I ever leave anything out that you need information about, please feel free to email me at amartos@lcps.net or call me at 575-527-6059.

So many great things....

First off, I would like to thank you for sharing your amazing kiddos with us! The start of this school year has been such fun. As you can see from the above upcoming events for August, we have a lot of things happening. Please keep an eye out for specifics on each.

For the Open House, please note the time for your student(s) grade level and come during that time. If you have more than one student here, please just come to one of the time slots. We have to break up our Open House this way because of our limited size both in terms of our parking lot and the size of our buildings.

After School Programs will be starting on August 22nd. We will be recruiting and registering kiddos next week. I am excited to announce that we may also be able to provide bussing for this years programming. More to come on this as well.

PTO and SAC Sign Up

Some of you have already expressed interest in signing up for PTO or the School Advisory Committee. If you are still interested, please fill out the following Google Form.

https://forms.gle/K6ft2EMmJcavri1x7

Unless the group indicates another time, we will try to have our PTO meetings on the third Thursday of each month.

Covid Notes

As many of you know, we are experiencing more covid cases at school. The District has installed HEPA and Ionic Wave Filters. With the help of one of our wonderful parents, Ms. Mikesell's My Time has created some DIY filters that are also now being used at school.

Now we just ask parents to remind students to wash their hands often, social distance as they can and keep kiddos home if they are sick.

If your kiddo has been exposed to covid, please call the nurse for guidelines....as they do tend to change. If you need any at-home tests, we still have plenty and they are free. Just let us know you need some and we will get them to you.

Volunteers and Lunch Monitors

Volunteers

We are also ALWAYS looking for volunteers to run My Times. If you have a passion that you would like to share with our kiddos, please let me know. We can get you a volunteer packet and schedule you ahead of time.

Lunch Monitor

Do you have a few hours a week to come hang out with kids and get paid for it? We can always use a few extra adult eyes to keep an eye out at lunch. Call the school at 575-527-6059 if you're interested.

Cell Phone Policies (Please start preparing your students now.)

Students are only allowed to use their cell phones before school, at lunch and after school. If you need to speak to your child or get a message to your child during the day, please call the front office at 527-6059 and we will get the message to your student.

If your child does not feel well, please tell them they need to come see the nurse and she will contact you if they need to be picked up. Students should not be calling or texting parents during the day unless it is from the office with an adult present.

Cell phones can be a huge distraction at school and we need your help to address this very real problem.

Discipline Rubric

Happily, at MVLA, we tend to be able to help students change behaviors before there is need for "Discipline". However, I thought parents might like to see what we do to ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students.
