Legal and Ethical Issues

Modern Technology

Defining the Problem:

"The advent of technology has raised a host of legal and ethical issues that are unique to the 21st century. From personal privacy online, to the appropriate uses of new technology, to copyright and intellectual property on the Internet, the legal and ethical issues in technology are multifaceted and complex (Walcerz 1999)."

Technology: Right or Wrong???

The biggest Legal and Ethical issue faced with Technology is whether or not it is used appropriately. For example, the use of technology in stem cell research. This has created a series of legal and ethical battles that have played out in the media and on the floor of congress which still continues to present day. Another issue that involves the use of technology is with the military. With the advancement of technology is use has been associated with mass genocide and continuation of war.

We live in a globally connected society because of the advancements in technology. Many websites that you visit collect your information and sells it to other companies without your permission. This is sometimes considered a grey area. The use of technology to monitor people in schools, public places and more: leaves questions as to where a person’s privacy begins compared to the public aspect. The government’s use of technology has become a hot topic based on whether it is infringing upon curtain right in the name of national security.
