Teddy Roosevelt & the Rough Riders
Students in Mrs. Gray's American Studies class took to the halls this week yelling as Teddy Roosevelt led his Rough Riders to war.
The most famous of all the units fighting in Cuba, the "Rough Riders" was the name given to the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry under the leadership of Theodore Roosevelt.
IB Spanish & French Students Travel to the Detroit Institute of Arts
The works on Vincent VanGogh are being exhibited as well as Ofrendas: Celebrating el Dia de Muertos. In Mexico, and other Latin American countries, the Day of the Dead is the time of the year to celebrate the lives of close relatives, friends or community members who have passed away. Objects important to lost loved ones, such as favorites foods, drinks, mementos and pictures, are collected and incorporated into elaborate displays that include pan de muerto (bread of the dead), sugar skulls, candles, flowers, papel picado (paper cutouts) and other decorations.
Attendance Plan Review Time
- No unexcused absences for 1st marking period of 2022-23 (8/23 to 10/28).
- No more than 3 tardies total for all class combined.
Attendance is viewable on Parent & Student Vue, so you can see if conditions have been met.
Note: Students who DID not meet the Attendance Plan conditions should meet with his/her counselor to determine the impact on being on track for graduation.
Attendance Matters - Call By Noon the Next Day to Excuse an Absence
Remember 10 Days of Absence = Attendance Appeal in January or Attendance Plan for 10 weeks
Student Parking - Register or Risk Being Towed
FHS uses a third party to tow vehicles not registered to park on campus. Tow trucks will begin patrolling lots.
Positivity Project: Theme of the Week: Bravery
In light of the upcoming Veterans Day, it is only fitting that this week we focus on the character strength of Bravery. The character strength of Bravery means that you act with mental, moral, or physical strength even when you know things are difficult or scary.
What does it look like?: Bravery can be categorized in three ways: mental, physical, and moral. Some people with social anxiety demonstrate mental bravery just by leaving their house and talking with people. Physical bravery allows us to overcome fears, such as swimming or playing a sport. And, moral bravery is doing the right thing, even when those around us choose not to.
Why it matters: Being brave is very important. Firefighters demonstrate bravery when they run
toward danger to save lives. Soldiers display bravery when they risk their lives to defend our
freedom. But not all acts of bravery are so dramatic. Learning new things and standing up for what is right even when those around you are making a different choice are ways everyone can demonstrate the character strength of Bravery.

E-Sports Interest Survey
For context, there is already a Michigan High School Esports League (MHSEL) sponsored by the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) and PlayVs. These agencies have worked collaboratively to provide safe, competitive, and curricular environments that allow student athletes the opportunity to build critical skill sets, explore vast career paths, and contribute to their school’s culture within varsity Esports.
Additionally, these agencies have partnered to create opportunities for students across the state of Michigan to participate in competitive gaming. This past year, Esports National Finals received twice the viewership of Super Bowl LVI! In some instances, students have even earned scholarships for colleges based on gaming!
Games offered for competition in the MHSEL this spring are: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rocket League, and League of Legends.
Filling out this survey DOES NOT mean students are on a team OR guaranteed a spot on a team. Our hope is to simply gauge if there is enough interest to field a team(s) at Fenton High School.
Similar to FHS Athletics Programs and Robotics, FHS Esports will establish eligibility criteria pertaining to grades, attendance, and behavioral expectations. Students must meet these requirements to participate in matches.
We will have an informational meeting and formal tryouts once we know student interest. Please look for this information in our Weekly Newsletter Updates as well as in SRT Announcements.
