Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
August 23, 2019
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
School has started! Touring buildings the first day is always interesting, and I was pleased to see teachers engaging students with meaningful activities. As class pictures of Kindergarten were taken, no criers were noted; yet, I understand that might not have been true for Kindergarten parents leaving the building. Of note, 197 children were enrolled and attended for the first day of kindergarten. This means 9 Kindergarten classrooms exceeded the desired class size; in fact, an additional teacher would have been hired if space was available. To meet the Board of Education student-teacher ratios, Kindergarten teacher aides have been added to each building. Districtwide K- 12, 2,309 students were enrolled. On the first day 2, 235 students actually attended. We expect attendance will approach 2,309 as the year gets underway.
A major challenge each year is protecting your student(s) information on-line and from seemingly appropriate inquiries. Technology-wise, the District uses various software packages meeting the requirements of the Children’s Internet Protection Act so your student(s) can avoid inappropriate internet content. Even with software use, your student(s) must secure their personal passwords on each device.
Another area of concern is requests for information about your student(s). Most of the time these requests come in the form of a grandparent or friend calling to change bus pickup/dropoff. While seemingly legitimate, we do not release information unless the Primary Parent has authorized that release. Perhaps an inconvenience to you but the procedure insures your child’s safety.
The state-sponsored school safety hotline has been reorganized to Courage2ReportMO, which is now a twenty-four-hour hotline with the responsibility to contact the appropriate school with threatening information. You may contact Courge2ReportMO through the mobile APP – C2R – Courage2ReportMO, Toll-Free Call: 866-748-7047 or Online tip submission form – www.courage2reportmo.com,
Thank you for sending great kids for us to work with.
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
