News & Notes from St. Francis of Assisi School
"That together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." ~ Romans 15:6

“But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, Jacob, and formed you, Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name: you are mine. When you pass through waters, I will be with you; through rivers, you shall not be swept away. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, nor will flames consume you. For I, the LORD, am your God, the Holy One of Israel, your savior.” ~ Isaiah 43:1-3a

THE GREAT TURKEY DINNER!
- On Sunday November 3rd, from 12:30 to 6 PM, we will hold the annual SFA Turkey Dinner - the biggest fundraiser of the school year! Each year the Turkey Dinner brings in thousands of dollars that directly support the school's operating budget. Every dollar we raise from this event is one less that we have to consider as part of next year's tuition! Every family needs to participate in order for this event to be successful!
- Dinner tickets are now available for purchase!
- How are you doing with your Raffle Tickets? It is vitally important that every family meet their minimum goal for Raffle Ticket sales. As part of the family obligation for tuition, the value of these tickets will be placed on your FACTS agreement if you don't meet the minimum amount.
- The first TWO winners (last week, and today) of the weekly SOLD BY prize drawing are: AVERY BAUER and CHARLIE KUJAWA!!!!!! These two fantastic kiddos will each receive a $25 gift card to The Children's Book Store! Congrats!
- There are still plenty of opportunities to sell tickets with a little over two weeks until the Turkey Dinner. Our goal is to sell ALL 5,000 tickets!!!

Halloween & All Saints
- DID YOU KNOW? Halloween traces part of its origin as the evening prior to the Catholic feast of All Saints (All Hallows Evening or Hallow E'en). In the Catholic Church, we celebrate the holy men and women who have gone before us to their heavenly reward. Through reflection on their lives, and through their intercession, we gain grace and blessings from the Lord.
- Students are invited to wear Halloween costumes on 10/31. Costumes should be appropriate for school. They may not be violent, and fake weapons may not be brought in. Masks brought for the parade may not be worn during the school day. Facepaint is allowed. Costumes that cannot safely travel the hallways and stairwells without help may not be worn.
- A Costume Parade will take place at 2 PM. We will walk around the block down Pelham Ave to Norman Ave and up Chesterfield Ave. Parents and guests are welcome to come for pictures!
- Please note that 10/31 is a full day of school and that there is also No Aftercare that day!
- All Saints Day on 11/1 is a Holy Day of Obligation and we will attend a school-wide mass at 11:30 AM that day. All are welcome! Students are invited to dress up as their favorite saint on that day. Students who participate in dressing up will be invited to join the opening procession for our school mass.

IB Learner Profile Trait of the Month - Reflective
"We thoughtfully consider the world and our own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development" (International Baccalaureate Organization). Our middle school students practiced this trait by considering their approaches to learning in regard to management of materials, presentation of work, learning engagement, and self-regulation. Parents of these students will see how they rated themselves as well as how their teachers rated them. This is a valuable practice for all of our students. It also reminds us as parents and teachers to take the time to "stop and smell the roses!"
