Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that is triggered by a terrifying event.It was first described in the American Civil War and the World Wars. At the time it was called shell shock and battle fatigue.


PTSD is caused by events like:

  • Combat exposure
  • Childhood neglect
  • Sexual assault
  • Physical attack
  • Armed threats


PTSD has various symptoms a few of them are:

  • Intrusive memories
  • Avoiding the subject of the event
  • Negative changes in emotional reactions


Everyone can develop PTSD but it is more common in people who are:

  • Female
  • Children
  • Middle Aged
  • In an ethnic Minority
  • Have no experience coping with traumatic events
