J.J. Abrams Creates Another War
May the force be with this fandom.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Director J.J. Abrams found himself in some hot water with fans Friday during the Tribeca Film Festival while answering a fan’s question. “Who are Rey’s parents?” This question in particular has created much excitement already within the Star Wars fandom and Abrams’ answer did nothing but add fuel to the already burning log.
"Rey's parents are not in Episode VII. So I can't possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too."
Said Abrams’. Many fans took this advice literal, as it completely debunks the “Rey is a Skywalker/Solo” theory and some believed that this confirmed that she is related to Obi Wan Kenobi. However the director went back on his word and clarified to Entertainment Weekly what he initially meant.
What's the real truth Abrams?
"What I meant was that she doesn't discover them in Episode VII. Not that they may not already be in her world."
Apparently he was just saying what those of us who watched the movie already know, Rey’s parents were not fully addressed in The Force Awakens and could not answer that question completely due to spoiling the upcoming eighth episode. So what do you believe, is Rey the lost daughter of Luke Skywalker, a forgotten/abandoned Solo, descendant of Obi Wan, or somebody completely new to the franchise? Sadly we won’t have these answers until 2017 or clues in the upcoming Rogue One movie coming out later this year.
