The Emerald
Emerald Campus Weekly News
A note for students and parents-
Thank you for another great week at EC!
This week we continued with our Live Streaming pilot with the remaining IB courses. We will extend our pilot to the academy program courses in the coming weeks. No later than November 9th, attendance will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for all IB and academy courses. Wednesdays will be reserved for scheduled teacher/student small group meeting times as determined by the teacher. Parents/Students will (or have) received a letter from Emerald Campus with specific dates.
The goal of this live streaming pilot is to maximize our district technology to provide increased synchronous instruction (live online, scheduled course) to students throughout the school week during the pandemic. The schedule is below under upcoming events/dates.
An intention of this initiative is to allow for the full group to connect and then for the teacher to utilize the class time as needed to incorporate the applicable elements of the workshop model, including, but not limited to, short lessons, group or independent work, and differentiated experiences. This will vary by teacher and will include allowing students to hop off the live streaming and work independently.
Student and parent feedback about the pilot are welcomed and appreciated. Teachers will also be collecting feedback from students. We will use this data to evaluate the implementation and plan the next steps.

11/1: IB Course and Test Fees Due
Invoices were sent to applicable students and parents. New this year, the exact fee will display under student fees in EZPay.
11/5: last drop date for CCP
Please remember the upcoming November 5th deadline. Dropping a course now will incur a financial penalty and a 'W'; however, you will not be able to drop after November 5th and your grade will stand as is and be factored into your GPA. A 'W' on the other hand is not counted toward GPA.
The CSCC CCP Advising office also sends out emails with important dates and information. Please make sure you are continuing to check your CSCC email.

Writing Center - EC and CSCC
We have a wonderful new student-driven Writing Center available as a service to students. The writing center desk is available on the 3rd floor of the EC building in our newly redesigned space, the Library Learning Commons (LLC). The desk is staffed by students who are ready to help other students through the writing process with support, feedback, and/or brainstorming help, and oversaw by our new EC Librarian, Dr. Henderson Murphy. The desk is staffed 8:30-2:30 Mon, Tues, Thur, and Fri. Students not in the building or wanting to schedule an appointment can request assistance at this link: TINYURL.COM/ECWRITINGCENTER. Here is the Flyer for the Writing Center
For students interested in volunteering, please reach out to Ashley Covitz, 21covitz_ashley@dublinstudents.net.
For CSCC/College Credit Plus students, the EC Writing Center is a great resource for you. T
Please note, there is also a writing center available through CSCC. The support is Accessed through NetTutor by clicking in the upper right-hand corner of any Blackboard class. Students will choose "Writing and Paper Center" and then "One-on-One Live Rooms" to see which Columbus State tutors are available.

District Updates
Bullet Points
Dublin City Schools to remain in hybrid learning for the remainder of the first semester
Members of our volunteer medical committees met with school board leadership and members of the Dublin City Schools administration to review local COVID-19 data. This group also worked to further refine our Dublin City Schools Learning Mode Decision Making Guide.
Based upon this examination of local COVID-19 data, a decision was made to PAUSE the district’s move to full in-person instruction for grades K-8 and remain in the hybrid learning mode for all levels (K-12) for the remainder of the first semester.
You can read more at this link.
You can find the latest local COVID-19 data, protocols, and other resources at this link.
Reminder: NO SCHOOL on Nov. 3 (ELECTION DAY) for staff professional development day.
Bullfrog License Plates Coming to Ohio thanks to Grizzell Students and Teachers
A project that started in Shawn Kaeser’s classroom in 2002 to make the bullfrog the official state amphibian has grown over the years. As a result of the ongoing efforts of Kaeser and his students over the years, a bill is going to be signed to create an Ohio bullfrog license plate. You can learn more at this link.
When to keep students at home?
If you have asked yourself the question, when should I keep my child home from school during this pandemic?, please visit this link to guidance from Franklin County Public Health.
