Husky Happenings

August 26, 2016

Thank you for a GREAT first week!

Huebner Husky staff ROCKS and you make me HAPPY to be a Husky!

Teach Like a Pirate and Kids Deserve It!

During our week together last week, I told you about a couple of books that I read this summer that were very inspiring. The philosophy behind these books is common with the ideas in TLAP, so I wanted to share some of these ideas with you each week. I hope these ideas, along with my thoughts, inspire you-propel you to do the best and be the best for our kids...every minutes of every day.

Here's the code you need to know for my "shorthand": TLAP stands for Teach Like a Pirate and KDI! stands for Kids Deserve It!

The idea of "Go Big" (KDI p.13-18) and "Be Great" (TLAP p.145-152) can be a little intimidating and possibly seem a little embarrassing or arrogant or uncomfortable.Do you want to be GREAT? Ask yourself..."Who benefits from my greatness?" The answer, "Your students, your school, and your community...ultimately, the WORLD!" How global is that?!!

As educators, we have a high calling, a purpose. Don't you think that deserves your full attention? Will you take the leap? Will you embrace some of those random moments to inspire learning? Will you go out on a limb? In the words of Benjamin disraeli, "Life is too short to be small." Let's be great together!

IMPORTANT Information You Will Not Want to Miss!

(Seriously, you don't want to miss this!)

PTA Greenback Night: All teachers are expected to attend. There will be a sign-in on the front counter. PTA is allowing teachers to have dinner at 5:00, and there will be 4 food trucks to choose from. Dinner is optional - attendance is mandatory. Please see me if you have complications.

Morning Minute: Each morning, Donna (and sometimes Michelle) send out an early email giving you information about the day, including subs, schedules, and special information/reminders. On Thursdays, there is a reminder about who has morning duty for the following day. Please read it each morning before you pick up students.

Pink and Blue Cards: Please review information on your students and fill in missing and new information (including STAAR scores). If you have new-to-the-school students, please get a new card for them and complete their information. Sarah has the blank cards. GLCs should return the cards to Sarah by Sept. 2.

Google: All NEISD employees and students will use Active Directory credentials for Google logins starting today at 5:00 p.m. At 5:00, your Google password will be the same as the password you use to login to the computer, email and Skype for Business. Please take a few moments to review the document from Tom Johnson, Executive Director for Technology Services. http://goo.gl/tv4gaz If you have any issues logging into the new system, please contact the Help Desk at 210-356-HELP.

Google Training: OPTIONAL If you would like a refresher or if you are new to Google (drive, calendar, forms, documents, etc.), Heather Miller will hold a training on Sept. 6 from 3:00-3:30 in the computer lab. Paraprofessionals and Teachers are invited to attend and can receive .5 hr. of credit in Eduphoria. ALL employees need to know how to navigate Google, so if you need help, this is your opportunity in a non-threatening environment.

Forms/Paperwork from Students: All forms, buff card, etc. are due by Friday, Sept. 2. Please send reminders and second copies if needed. Lunch applications must go to the cafeteria/Angie immediately. Please offer a reward for students and let's reach 100%!

Lunch Count must be in mainframe by 8:30.

Attendance must be taken at 9:30. Set an alarm on your phone. :)
