A Note from Mrs. Pacholski

Dear families.

As we reflect on the first half of our school year, we could not be more proud of our students and their accomplishments thus far. The academic growth we have seen has been amazing. We are thankful for our teachers who work tirelessly to ensure that all of their students receive the best possible education. We are also grateful for our families and community who help to make PES a better place. Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated.

On behalf of Mrs. Bickford and myself, we hope you and your family have a joyous holiday season. We look forward to welcoming our students back in 2020! We hope the new year will bring new learning experiences, new challenges, and continued success.

Have a wonderful holiday!

A Friendly Reminder From The Nurse

Please keep your child home for 24 hours after vomiting and diarrhea. Or has a temp over 100.

If your child is running a fever, or has vomiting or diarrhea, they are contagious and are more likely to spread their germs to everyone they come into contact with. Even without a fever, stomach viruses are highly contagious and spread easily from person to person when you have symptoms.

Thank you for helping us keep our school healthy. Have a wonderful holiday season.

News from Third Grade

Third grade has been working hard on writing opinion pieces. Our students are full of opinions, so this is an excellent unit for them. Throughout this unit students have been working on being able to state their opinion, support their opinion with claims, and organize their writing in paragraphs. Students are also working on drafting a paragraph for each reason that supports their claim. One area students are focusing on is how to write a good ending for their piece of writing. They are learning how to take their opinion stated at the beginning of their writing and restate it once again so the reader is brought back to the focus of the topic . At this point in the year students should be able to write fast and furiously to fill in a full page of writing in about 10 minutes before moving on to a new page. We are so proud of the progress our students are making.

First Trimester Winter Celebration

On Friday, January 3, 2020 we will celebrate the end of the first trimester during our school-wide Winter Celebration. Grade level clusters have planned various indoor and outdoor activities for students to participate in throughout the day.

  • PreK will have their activities after rest time in their classrooms.
  • K-2 students will participate in activities from 9:30-11:30
  • Grades 3-4 students will have their activities from 1:45-2:50
  • Grades 5-6 students will have activities from 10:00-2:00

We want to recognize the hard work and effort put in by students throughout the first trimester and hope they will enjoy this celebration upon their return to school in January.

PTO Needs Your Help

We have a wonderful PTO at PES. This group works hard to plan fun events for students and families. The PTO also organizes fundraisers to help support field trips, increasing access to technology in classrooms, academic enrichment, supporting field day at the end of the year, as well as many other events/activities. It is hard to believe how much the PTO does for our school. It takes a lot of time and planning to pull off these events and fundraisers and the PTO would welcome new members at any time. Please consider joining us for the next PTO meeting which will be held on January 27, 2020 at 6:00 pm in the library. We look forward to seeing you and hearing your ideas!
