HOPE - Newsletter for May 2020
The COVID19 Pandemic continues to impact the world. Many countries are still in strict quarantine, schools continue to be closed in most countries with sanitisation and social distancing high on the agenda. Economies are suffering. A number of countries are starting to reduce restrictions and their imposed quarantine. Students in some countries are even returning to schools. This is contributing to hope that there is a road out of the pandemic.
The theme of this newsletter is HOPE. Hope keeps many of us going by generating positive emotions that leads to healthier mindsets. It is of note that the month of May is also Mental Health Awareness Month.
Despite school closures, there are still a variety of global projects to be involved in, virtual conferences and webinars to participate in and some great recordings to listen to.

May is Mental Health Awareness month
What a timely theme for the month of May. May is Mental Health Awareness month. Looking after mental health should be a priority during these traumatic times. Connectedness is more important than ever.

Congratulations to Dr. Eva Brown who has been awarded our Excellence Award for 2020.
In partnership with a colleague in the United States, Canadian Dr. Eva Brown designed a global collaboration project to inspire and engage new teachers. Using the ISTE Standards for Students and Educators, Dr. Brown pushed her students to think outside the traditional realm of education. The project encouraged future teachers to design authentic learning experiences for students using the UN Sustainable Development Goals, resulting in a change of their own perspective of our ever changing world.
Beyond providing her students with a unique experience in working internationally with other future teachers, they had the opportunity to learn from their experience. They have reviewed their project and developed a series of “Lessons Learned” based upon their experiences. They have had the opportunity to share their insights with other educators at three conferences. Finally, they plan to publish an article in ISTE’s Journal for Digital Learning in Teacher Education in the near future.
