Duncan Creek Elementary
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year at Duncan Creek Elementary! As of August 18th, we are beginning the year with an enrollment of 1,118 students. We appreciate all the help from our volunteers during the first two weeks of school. We held two successful Curriculum Nights to help parents have a better understanding of the students’ academic day, routines, and teacher expectations.
Our technology retrofit will take place in September. Each regular education, special education and support staff classroom will receive a new teacher laptop, a new printer, teacher voice enhancement system, a projector, a document camera, and two student laptops. We will use school funds to purchase even more student laptops. We are very excited!
The Gwinnett County Board of Education has called for a referendum on continuing the one-cent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for education for another five years. This E-SPLOST referendum will be on the county’s November 3rd ballot. This 1-cent sales tax will be on all retail sales in Gwinnett County. It is not a property tax. Everyone who makes a purchase in Gwinnett County, including visitors, contributes to the support of local schools. The E-SPLOST is not a new or additional tax but an extension of the one-percent tax already being collected on sales. Please take the time to go vote on November 3rd.
We are so fortunate at Duncan Creek Elementary to have such a wonderfully supportive PTA. I look forward to seeing you at our first big event, Night Under the Stars, on Thursday, September 10 from 6:00-8:00pm. We thank our PTA for their time and dedication.

Meet Duncan Creek Elementary’s

We hope everyone is off to a great start! We have enjoyed getting back in the classroom and seeing both familiar and new faces.
As School Counselors we:
Meet individually with children
Conduct small group counseling sessions
Consult with parents in private conferences about their child
Consult with teachers
Provide information on community resources for families
Work to remove barriers that impact academic success
Teach regular classroom guidance in classrooms
Respecting individual differences
In Individual Counseling we:
Help children cope with difficult and/or unchangeable life events
Help children recognize and make use of their potential
Give children the opportunity to share their feelings and concerns
Develop problem solving ability
Teach decision making skills
Help build self-esteem and confidence
We are available to work with parents on the following topics and issues to help children be more successful at school:
Study Skills (organization, testing tips, etc.)
Family Changes (moving, death, divorce, separation)
Stress and Perfectionism
